This item is of a clearly Alien nature, due to its design, materials, or utility. The name of the race that created the item is included in brackets e.g. Xenotech (Aeldari).
- Characters not of the relevant race suffer a -2SL penalty to any test to use the item, unless the character has the relevant Specialisation or equipment modification..
- Attempting to obscure the presence of Xenotech equipment is a Stealth (Conceal) test, with a -10 penalty per point of Encumbrance.
- Xenotech equipment is often superior in construction to its Imperial counterparts. This can be represented with an Item Quality offset against the effects of the Flaw. (Warr's Note: This also keeps the availability & price the same as Imperial equivalents for the sake of convenience. Also, it might make sense to include a free weapon upgrade instead of a weapon quality - e.g. melee attachments for Splinter Weapons).
- Xenotech (Aeldari) - Lightweight
- Xenotech (Votann) - Durable
In Imperial space, the SL and Influence penalties from Strangers... also applies to equipment and availability. Note that the Strangers... debuff does not stack, so an Aeldari looking for ammunition for their Shuriken Pistol will only have to deal with a -2SL penalty. Most named Xenotech has this modifier built in.
Human Characters that openly display Xenotech in Imperial society are likely to be treated like Strangers in a Strange Land, outside of certain scenarios:
- The character succeeds on a Difficult (-20) Rapport (Charm) or Presence (Intimidate / Leadership) test to divert or quell any rising hostility.
- The character is dealing with groups less likely to be outraged by the presence of Xenotech - see Strangers... for possible candidates.
