Decay of Earth's Biosphere 1,760 — 2,150
With few exceptions worldwide, Capitalism inexorably throws off its fetters, capturing governmental power and eroding worker rights. Corporate consolidation accelerates, and most of the consumer and industrial sectors are controlled by a few conglomerates. Near the end of this period, the natural resources on Earth have been for the most part spent or hoarded, and the primary means of expanding extraction and markets is through exploration of the Solar System.
Rapid Capitalist Decay & Conflict 1,970 — 2,036
Colonization of the Solar System & Technological Stagnation 2,036 — 2,150
As the climate collapses and institutions find themselves largely not up to the task of addressing it, private enterprise seek to colonize other bodies in the system.
The colonization we do achieve takes painstaking years to create only rudimentary infrastructure. People still live in cramped dome colonies that don’t seem to serve a purpose beyond making someone richer. The situation on Earth hasn’t improved. We are safe from extinction, but the sense of a purpose for humanity appears to be fading. And the powerful of humanity are, as usual, one step away from going for each others’ throats.
