Town: Population 843 (35% Dwarves, 23% Dragonborn, 20% Humans, 13% Tieflings, 9% others)

Draakbarrow was a modest, low stone-built settlement nestled in the shadow on the western base of Blind Claw, in the center of the Tracteur Blindé barony. The town got its name from the massive barrows and dragon burial cairns that lied scattered throughout the region - tombs of ancient wyrms and drakewardens from the Cabalum, long forgotten by time. These tombs lingered with a heavy presence in the local culture, often inspiring fear and superstition among the inhabitants.

Government. The capital and the barony were all under the purview of Baroness Kutrelynn Brandaxe - the most recent in a long line of Brandaxe dwarves who had all commanded the region through history, their lineage stretching back through the Cabalum. She oversaw the protection and governing of the region from Brandaxe Keep.

History

The settlement was founded after a host of dragons and drakewardens early in the Cabalum perished over various clashes and disputes - a conflict that resulted a massive reduction in the population of Dragons and made way for less powerful beings (humanoids) to settle in the region. The slain dragons, riders, and allies were buried beneath and around the mountain by later humanoid settlers (including distant descendants of Kutrelynn Brandaxe) in an effort to appease their restless spitits, their remains entombed in enchanted stone barrows and individual stone cairns.

In the years since Morgo the Maleficent took refuge within Castle Darkstone, rumors of the vengeful nature of these spirits resurfaced in full force - all who approached the mountain or the castle either disappeared or were cursed and marked by the dragon's power.

Points of Interest

Bored Hoard. A magic item store run by Reynauld Coinclaw, which was devoid of an inventory after the Scaled Corona swept through the town recently.

Brandaxe Keep. This stone fort was the residence of Baroness Kutrelynn Brandaxe and her loyal retinue. Built on the highest point of the settlement, it overlooked both the town and the dragon burial sites. The keep was a mix of dwarven and human architecture, with dragon-shaped gargoyles lining its parapets. Kutrelynn's family had ruled the town for generations, and her personal obsession with Blind Claw's dragons was well-known among the townsfolk.

Scaled Corona Guild Hall. A popular but notorious organization of dragon hunters/worshippers, treasure seekers, and tomb raiders who had exploded in popularity in Draakbarrow since the arrival of Morgo the Maleficent in Castle Darkstone, the Scaled Corona established a long house on the eastern edge of town to gather, collect and display prized possessions from their expeditions, and to meet. The building was always buzzing with activity but the interior was closely guarded from any and all individuals who were not a part of the group. Lohka Wyroc acted as the leader.

The Tooth and Claw. The largest gathering place in town: a large, open tavern which was established in the interior of the skull of the largest dragon of known history - Zalvorax the Eclipsed Ruin. Numerous tables, chairs, and stools populate the interior edges of the skull, with the bar settled within the crook of the maw. The tavern was run by Ba'Thraaz Nemmonaar, a Copper Dragonborn, and served doubly as the hub for the Scaled Corona, with the group justifying occupying the skull as a form of worship and reverence to the dead dragons.

Wyrm's Roost. A tall, multistoried inn with rooms circling up the uneven tower-building. The rooms were open air and circular like nests, with some having wooden supports or frames like a birdcage while others near the peak were totally open air. The inn provided plenty of space and accommodations for flying mounts. The innkeep was Baril "Sanctity" Epalout, a Tiefling who kept the inn safe and apart from the influences of the Scaled Corona.
