Caen Zauber sought to shatter the Ends of Empyrean, giving free access between Al'tehrun and the Deities and return to a time similar to the Cabalum. As these beings were believed to have given sentient life knowledge and magic, he believed he could welcome the Deitie back to Al'tehrun and ascend to a station parallel or above those beings. This would either be by way of a reward for bringing them back to the material plane, or by increasing his own power via direct connection with the divine.
Amalar Crys contracted the Skallywag Squad to procure an artifact: the legendary weapon Earthsplitter. In return for items to aid them in their campaign against Morgo the Maleficent, the group was instructed to retrieve details of a lead in possession of one herald of Beskem, Oraleur Sylwes. They killed him, took the writings he had, and pursued the lead to Rookmore. There, they found the Buried Temple of Beskem , retrieved Earthsplitter, teleported back to Sedesend, and handed it over to him.
On the 15th of Duratus, 1113 GE (eve of the twin full moons, Unknown), Amalar Crys traveled to the Crown of Tarque. Here, on the night rife with magical energy and arcane significance, he used Earthsplitter to it's full power despite not being a true champion of Beskem, and struck the ground below.
Within 3 months, pending any intervention or slowdown, Mother would decimate the countryside of Olessar and reach Sedesend on the 15th of Airtifae.
