Arielle Mackay was born to very wealthy family in Midiston, in fact, it was her family that made this factory town into the sprawling city it has become. Her family's company, Mackay Industries, grew massively during the Second World War, quickly changing its production of farming equipment to firearms and other military equipment. Her father, Norman, took over the company when she was young, but he always  knew that Arielle would one day take over his position. Thanks to her familial wealth and a large donation, she went to Yale University and double majored in business management and mechanical engineering.

Following her graduation, she asked her father for the money to found a subsidiary of their company, one that she could run by herself. Using her degrees, she created a team of engineers to try to create a sustainable engine for semi-trucks and other large transportation vehicles, founding Mackay Motors. But when some members of a small street gang known as the Zugzwang Gang developed superpowers and stole equipment from Mackay Services, their subsidiary for the military industrial complex, Arielle couldn't just sit around. So she put her engineering degree to use, using the engines, shafts, servos, and more for the trucks that Mackay Motors was producing, and repurposing it to create a way of protecting the city that her family created.

She created a massive mechanical exosuit, standing almost ten feet tall, the sustainable combustion engine that powered the suit was partially exposed, showing off the moving pistons. For years, Arielle decided to take on the duty of protecting her city, but as the public face of a company, she couldn't do so in the open. So she took on the alias "The Machine", and adjusted the muffler in her suit to modulate her voice.

After years of protecting only her city, there was a threat that arose, one that put the entire nation in danger. A man who called himself Forge who was a self proclaimed "Powered Separatist", in an attack on the Capitol Building, he killed both the Speaker of the House. It was this action that caused a man called "The Centurion" to go around the country and recruit heroes to help him stop this man. And following the creation of this team of heroes called , it's through Arielle's wallet that the Centurions are able to fund themselves, and her company's R&D team helped create tech for the team and would later sell the products on the open market, or directly to the military or police departments.
