The Taskforce was a group created by the United States Army to help with the war effort in the 1940s, this team was formed of individuals with extra-normal abilities in order to covertly take down the Nazi "ubermensch" experiments. Following their departure from the army, the Taskforce continued to do good together, becoming protectors of the United States, with their headquarters in Brownbridge, New Mexico. They became the United States', and maybe even the world's, first team of superheroes in modern history.

The members of the Taskforce were not the only ones approached, but each member accepted for their own personal reasons. Dr Hardy Weber saw his homeland slowly turning into a totalitarian dictatorship, it reminded him of the horrors he saw as a child during the Great War, and he wanted to stop it before it got worse. Being Jewish, Ilay Klein had a vested interest in the safety of herself and her family, but she also wanted to prove that a woman was capable of more than just being a pretty face. Izel Perez had the opposite of the Nazi's "perfect aryan" features, yet he first rejected the offer, his only reason for accepting was love at first sight.

Professor Evan Hagan and Leonard Sumner were asked to join for their mystical connection, but unbeknownst to basically everyone, the pair were more than friends, they were lovers and life partners, but it was forced to be kept a secret due to homosexuality being illegal. Sox Cuhl (Susie Cole) was an alien of unknown origin, something that Nazi scientists would love to dissect, moreover she came from a planet that knew the horrors of war and what could happen after peace was found, and she wanted to help bring that to this world. And finally, Otto Bauer was a trained Air Force pilot, so it was his job to fight the Nazi's anyways, but when the attack on Pearl Harbor happened, he lost his younger brother Kurt making this personal.

Following the end of the Vietnam War and the disbanding of the Taskforce, the US knew that Powered individuals exist. With people showing signs of these abilities following the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, or the more recent exposure to the herbicides in Vietnam. They knew that they would have to find a way to keep track of these new Powered individuals, as well as any technology that might give similar effects. The government created an agency specifically for tracking such things under the Department of Defence, naming the organisation the Record of Extra-Normal Powered Others and Radical Technology, or just the REPORT.

The Centurions are a team of Powered individuals who defend the Earth from any extra-normal threats that threaten the world. Each member tends to work separately from the rest, protecting their own cities, but should the need arise, they work together and protect the world. They first joined forces when the villain known as Forge finally made himself known, successfully foiling his plan but failing to take him into custody, they decided that the only way to keep something like that from happening again was to work and train together more often.
