Backstory

Gunter Grumbleton Junior is the first born of 5 other siblings. Taught how to look over his father's (G. Grumbleton Senior) farm at only 5, Gunter has been accustomed to backbreaking labor since childhood. When Thomas Grumbleton was born, Gunter's chores only increased. His favorite place to be was in the barn, there he would practice punching haybales to pass the time. When his brother turned 5 and Gunter was only 10, father would take us hunting around the perimeter of our land. My 2 sisters Alice Grumbleton and Elizabeth Grumbleton were born at this time so father wanted us to be able to find food for ourselves if needed. Father was great with a crossbow and he'd taught us how to properly kill and dress wild game. As I grew in size and age I became more confident about leaving the border of our field alone.

At age 14 I discovered a lone wolf stalking me, he attacked without warning and I defended myself. It was a fierce battle, in which I took many bite wounds from the beast. But after some time I managed to get it into a chokehold and squeezed the life from the creature. My first kill, I took the body of the wolf to my favorite spot above the barn. I limbed into the house and got quite the earful from mother (Mary Grumbleton). She decided to start to teach me how to read at this age, Thomas and my other siblings learned early from mother. But I was always with father doing farm work, so I never had time. At 16 mother had bought me an adventure book. This was unlike others I'd seen, this was an auto-biography. Written by a renowned Dwarven Adventurer, Ulfgar Firebrand, great warrior of the mountain dwarves. The concepts of honor and battle were now being dumped into my young mind. I trained everyday from that point on. When the twins were born that next year, I hit my last growth spurt. Father could see, even though I always helped with farm work, I clearly had something motivating me. I wanted to be an adventurer. At age 18 father brought in hired help, Thorin Ungart, who'd become my great friend. He told me stories of other dwarven legends. As well as facts about Ulfgar he'd never say his book. He eventually taught me dwarvish when we needed to trade with merchants in near by villages. At age 20 we needed to sell our crops to this same village, so Thorin and I made the journey to do so. On our way however we could see that the village was being attacked by a hungry pack of wolves. It made no sense though, even hungry, wolves would never come this close to humans for food. Though they were not normal wolves. They're pack leader was a Dire Wolf. He looked over them and almost growled instructions. I told Thorin to pass out torches to the villagers to back the wolves off. I would take on the Dire Wolf myself. The village would watch on as I beat the giant wolf with my fists before grappling her to the ground. She would eventually escape my grasp and run into the forrest, her pack following behind her. I heard behind me and roar of applause, I looked to see many of those in the village take to the streets and call out my name. GUNTER! GUNTER! My father would hear of this endeavor and eventually talk to me about leaving the farm. He said I needed to find my own calling in life, and there was nothing more I needed to do here. At 21 years old, I, Gunter Grumbleton 'Junior' will begin my quest to become a respected warrior of great renown.

My journey starts now. Once getting to the village of Longsaddle, Thorin sent me a letter to meet his cousin in Neverwinter. His name is Gundren Rockseeker and he is looking for trusted help on a job. With no other information I decided this would be my best place to start as an adventurer. It took up to 2 weeks on horseback to travel from Longsaddle to Neverwinter. I faced only wolfs and a small group of hungry bandits. Nothing the Great Gunter could not handle alone. When getting to Neverwinter I had a new bushy beard. Making my way into the Murky Crab I finally met the dwarf I'd ridden so long to meet, the cousin of my dear friend Thorin, Gundren Rockseeker.
