Timbal (Aleslosh) Sheneglen

Honorable Burrow Warden

Description

Description:

You can find, or rather not find, Aleslosh, in taverns, inns, back alleys, and fine residences all over Settlestone. In addition to his thievery, he has a booming business in the information trade. His gnomish camouflage and hiding skills make him nearly invisible wherever he goes.

If you catch him in his rare, visible, state, you see a small gnome with gray stone-colored skin. His large, lumpy nose precedes him wherever he goes. Shining deep-set black eyes dart around constantly. His thin lips are usually set in a firm line, denoting his constant state of alertness.

As all Svirfneblin males, his head is bald. He has a wiry white beard that comes to a point when it reaches his belt. He also sports wing-like eyebrows. He fidgets constantly and his body twitches from time to time. Normally he wears dusty commoner's clothes reminiscent of urban camouflage with a set of thieves tools carefully concealed in a belt pouch and a couple of daggers tucked in his worn boots. He does have a set of fine clothes for when he is entering areas where nobles live.

Aleslosh is a Sverfneblin, also known as a Deep Gnome. He was born in Blingdenstone near Menzoberanzzan. Like the rest of his race, he lived in constant fear of the vicious Drow. Deep Gnomes are secretive and can be nearly invisible in rocky places. And who can blame them for their mistrust of everyone they meet. Living in the Underdark, where danger lurks around every corner, would destroy anyone's faith in society.

When the Svirfneblin abandoned their city to fight with the Dwarves in the war to protect Mithril Hall from the Drow, King Bruenor Battlehammer granted the entire population of Blingdenstone a permanent home in Mithral Hall.

Ousted from their homes by the Curse of Mithril Hall, the clans scattered, seeking the safety of the deep stones. By then, Aleslosh had been awarded the title of Honorable Burrow Warden for his skills with the stones and his bravery in the war to reclaim Mithril Hall. Aleslosh, a fine jeweler by trade, wandered Faerûn for a while, seeking a safe place to ply his trade. He settled in Neverwinter. The city proved unsafe. There was a contingent of ruffians who mistook him for a Duergar and beat him horribly. They left him for dead near the Temple of Helm, a place famous for both granting healing to any who needed it and brewing excellent ale.

Bryllin Stoneheart, a young dwarven acolyte, became his healer. They formed a friendship, reluctant at first, that became an anchor for both of them. In fact,  it was Bry who nicknamed him Aleslosh. She had brought him a tankard of ale when he was barely able to sit up. She lifted his head a bit and tried to help him drink. He grabbed the tankard and spilled the contents all over himself!

But as soon as he was able to move, he abandoned Bry and the temple. He left Neverwinter and made the long trek to Settlestone, hoping to find a safe home in the mountains nearby. But the Gemdelver had extended their reach to Settlestone. Forced by circumstance to become a rogue, Aleslosh has been sticking to the shadows, picking pockets and conning folk out of their money. He's also been selling gems he extracts from a small mine he has nearby, then stealing them back, of course.

His life goal is to be able to reclaim the ancient Svirfneblin magic and summon a stone elemental to protect himself. Time spent working with the Most Honorable Burrow Warden gave him hope of achieving his goal. But, unlike his ancestors, he's not working in a deep cave.
