The Shield of the Crusader is a diamond-shaped tower shield, made of a silver-colored metal with a red, patterned center.
Attunement is required to wield this item and attunement will reveal that there may be more to this item in time.
Dormant State
While wielding this shield, it grants the Attuned +1 to AC.
When struck in combat, the Attuned may use a reaction to reposition the shield and reflect some of that damage back to the attacker, dealing 1d6 Radiant damage.
Awakened State
The bonus armor from wielding this shield is increased from +1 to +2.
The reflected damage dealt to an attacker when they hit, while wielding the shield, is increased from 1d6 Radiant damage to 1d8 Radiant damage.
Exalted State
The bonus armor from wielding this shield is increased from +2 to +3.
The reflected damage dealt to an attacker when they hit, while wielding the shield, is increased from 1d8 Radiant damage to 1d10 Radiant damage.
When the Attuned is knocked unconscious by an attack or spell, a blast of healing flame surrounds them. All enemy creatures within 10 feet of them must make a Dexterity saving throw. On a fail, they take 2d6 radiant damage, half on a success. The Attuned, and all friendly creatures within 10 feet of them, are healed instead of taking damage. Once this happens, the Attuned must complete a long rest before this feature can trigger again.
