Hlaalu Hearts Are Stoney

Artarya Indoril, the Archmage of the College of Winterhold, journeyed into Morrowind, with some of her fellow Wizards of the College, and began investigations into the issues presenting themselves in Morrowind. The Houses were in upheaval over multiple issues both political and religious in nature. While there were many still arguing over the worship of the Tribunal (Vivec, Almalexia & Sotha Sil) versus the worship of the Reclamations (Azura, Boethiah, & Mephala), there were also still issues regarding the actual rulership in Morrowind. With the Oblivion Crisis, House Hlaalu had lost rapport while House Redoran had gained it. After the war with the Argonians, the capital had been moved from Mournhold to Blacklight. While the party was dealing with issues in Hammerfell, Artarya dealt with a bunch of inner-House issues across Morrowind, patching up problems that presented themselves between the minor houses and the other greater houses of Morrowind. This, however, still left issues between Hlaalu, Telvanni, and Redoran to deal with.

After the issues in Hammerfell had been dealt with so quickly, the party decided to help in Morrowind. After a pit-stop in Solitude and Winterhold to resupply and do some research, they were able to get a teleport to the city of Blacklight. They united with Artarya and met with the leaders of House Redoran to get apprised of the situation. They learned of the issues present between the houses, but also learned of additional investigation being done, into the inner workings of a Smuggling Ring involving an item known as Heartstone. There was a lot of mystery as to what Heartstone was and the information was lacking. Master Neloth, of House Telvanni had been experimenting with it and researching it for a long time now, so a trip to see him was probably needed. However, the Thieves Guild had managed to get some from a camp of Reavers that had been attacked. The party decided to investigate this first. They found, on the island of Vvardenfell, the Reaver camp had been attacked by the Morag Tong. Finding more Heartstone at the camp, the party then decided to head for the island of Solstheim, where they knew there were some sources of Heartstone. On Solstheim were two major settlements, the Dunmer town of Raven Rock in the south-west, and the Skaal Village in the north-east, however, they eventually came to realize that Master Neloth also lived on Solstheim, in a small estate he had fashioned, himself, called Tel Mithryn.

Scattered all over Solstheim were deposits of the mineral known only as Heartstone. It was reportedly igneous rock that was propelled from Red Mountain when it erupted. The eruption cast debris all over Morrowind, and into the ocean on its way to Solstheim, but something more than just the velocity and trajectory of these deposits was important. The Heartstone was apparently growing. Every site the stone landed, the Heartstone seemed to, like crystal, grow and expand. Master Neloth was for years inspecting the stone and gathering as much of it as he could. However, he was not the only one interested in it, and the Morag Tong, employed by Helseth Hlaalu, King of Morrowind, was creating a trade route of Heartstone in order to sell it to whoever wanted it, including the Thalmor.

A letter was found, on some dead Reavers, describing how Helseth Hlaalu was upset with Neloth for hoarding the Heartstone. After a chat with Neloth, and sharing the note with him, the party decided to investigate the Morag Tong, so they journeyed to Ashfallow Citadel, a Morag Tong base of operations on Solstheim.

Not wanting to talk it out, believing there was no point, the Blackpowder Mercenaries went into assault mode. Fighting through several small groups of Morag Tong, they eventually came to Jacyn Hlaalu, the leader in Ashfallow Citadel. After defeating him, they found writs of execution, for the Nerevarine, Neloth, the Reavers, and the leaders of House Redoran; Nirinea Redoran and Vondar Redoran, whom they had met in Blacklight.

Finding a need to deal with Helseth Hlaalu directly, to stop the chances of Heartstone being smuggled to the Thalmor, the party returned, by boat, to Blacklight, and then used a teleportation circle to travel to the city of Ebonheart. 6 days away from Mournhold, where Artarya had scryed Helseth's location, the party began to trek to what seemed like a definitive fight just to get into the city. On the first night of their travels, they were approached by a mysterious individual in a brown robe, with red markings on their face. They delivered a message that the whole of the party was, also, on the Morag Tong's list of licensed writs.

Curious as to why Artarya was not marked with a writ, and many other things, Sariel used Legend Lore to learn more about Artarya. Upon what it revealed, she also delved into the legend of the Nerevarine. Artarya does not remember her past well, and so it becomes a theory, and to some a foregone conclusion, that Artarya is the Nerevarine and that some form of memory magic has been cast on her, to make her forget.

Putting the idea of Artarya's memories aside for the moment, the party completes the trek to Mournhold. Some efforts at infiltration are attempted, using hats of disguise acquired in Hammerfell to impersonate Thalmor soldiers sent to retrieve the Tools of Kagrenac. However, in the throne room, they find a new Emissary seated beside Helseth. A backup plan had been planned, however, and so while a fight had begun, beans in jars had been dropped on the city. While random creatures spawned from this, the party fought off Helseth's guards, Thalmor troops, a couple of mages, and the woman who had delivered the writs of execution to the party. A spooked guard, that managed to survive the fight, eagerly and willingly gave them information. The party would follow this information.

A caravan had left the city just before the party's arrival. They were supposedly carrying the Tools of Kagrenac. The party intercepted the caravan while it had pitched camp for the evening and once more, the party tried their Thalmor disguises. The ruse did not go well and a fight ensued. However, the Thalmor were easily dealt with. One of the Thalmor tried to flee with a small box. The party managed to stop him and opened the box. A puff of smoke emitted from it upon being opened, and all they found within was a magical inscription. They also found some documents that stated the caravan had been headed, first, for the city of Narsis and a contact by the name of Morir. Journeying to Naris, they used some long-range surveillance to search the city but found no sign of any Thalmor individuals engaging in an exchange.  The next destination mentioned in the papers they had confiscated mentioned the city of Leyawiin, so they decided to head there next. Before they left, however, they decided to inform Artarya of their theories.

Using a Greater Restoration, they managed to remove whatever effect had blocked Artarya's memories and, in an instant, she remembered it all. With this, she recounted all that she remembered about her past with Vivec, Neloth, Helseth, and much more about her past. With that taken care of, they journeyed north of Narsis, to a pass in the mountains to go from Morrowind into Cyrodiil.
