Mantle of Dragons

Wondrous Item, Very Rare, Requires Attunement

Dragonhide and scales harvested over centuries were used to create this wondrous cloak. Magicka bestowed upon the Cult by their Dragon overlords was infused into it and the cloak forged a connection to the draconic afterlife as a result. Power radiates from it, an intoxicating essence that calls forth and begs you to don the Mantle of Dragons.

This cloak requires attunement to gain its effects. Once attuned, the wearer learns that the cloak grants the ability to change in a manner similar to the Polymorph spell. The cloak allows one to transform into a dragon of the same type as was used to forge the cloak. All items held or worn during the change are absorbed into the dragon form.

The kind of dragon the wearer transforms into is directly related to the level of the adventurer.

If the wearer is brought to 0 HP while in dragon form, they return to their natural form. If damage sustained exceeded their dragon form's HP, the remainder is dealt to the attuned's normal form HP.

Once the cloak is used to transform into a dragon, the wearer cannot transform again until a new day and a coin is flipped to determine if the cloak's power has recharged.

Curse:

The dragon form has a soul of its own and, as such, requires the wearer to make a DC 10 Wisdom saving throw every time the adventurer wishes to change back to their natural form. On a failed save, the DC goes up by 1 point. The wearer takes 4d6 dmg and takes on a level of Corruption. The mannerisms and goals of the adventurer slowly change to those of the dragon. Each failed save adds a level of Corruption, up to six fails. On the sixth fail, the soul of the dragon takes over the body and the adventurer is lost. The dragon will be all that remains and becomes an NPC, with the player's abilities, controlled by the DM. On a successful save, the corruption is removed and the DC is returned to 10.
