The energy provides you with a kinetic shield or a static shield, as you choose. The kinetic shield grants you resistance to lightning damage, and the static shield grants you resistance to thunder damage.
In addition, whenever a creature within 5 feet of you hits you with a melee attack, the shield erupts with energy. The attacker takes 2d8 thunder damage from a kinetic shield or 2d8 lightning damage from a static shield.
