Izanagi

He Who Invites

Also known as "He Who Invites", Izanagi is one of few godly or other-worldly entities regarded in Akaviri beliefs and myths. Whether or not his story is true or invented by the people of Akavir, it goes as such...

While other Aedric stories play out in Tamriel, in the regions far east of Tamriel Izanagi and his sister-wife Izanami arrived from the seperating of chaos and void. With a jeweled spear, he stirred the oceans and from such an act, created the many islands of what is called, today, Mānshū han. With their success on the islands, they continued their efforts and created the rest of Akavir. With these creations made, they moved on to the idea of having children.

Their first child, named Hiruko or Ebisu, became a god of sea travel, commerce, and fish.

Their second child, named Kagutsuchi, became the god of fire. This birth, however, burned Izanami, causing her death and departure into a realm of Oblivion known as Yomi. In his grief, Izanagi killed Kagutsuchi, using his weapon to cut him into eight pieces, creating eight volcanos around the realms of Akavir. These volcanos became the birth places of eight new deities.

After this act, Izanagi continued in his grief. He followed Izanami into Yomi and found her. He pledged to bring her out of Yomi and restore her. She waited in the dark of Yomi and was pleased to be persued, but pleaded with Izanagi to not put any light on her. During the night, though, Izanagi lit a fire and found that her body had begun rotting and she was covered in maggots. Horrified, he fled Yomi with her in angered pursuit. She cursed to Izanagi for betraying their bond as he began to put a sealing spell upon the realm of Yomi to seal it away from any who might accidentally wander into it. In her anger, Izanami made the pledge that for every day Izanagi remained away from her side, she would end the lives of 1,000 people. To which, he responded that he would give life to 150,000 people every day

Disgusted by what he had seen in Yomi, Izanagi went to the sea and bathed to purify himself, and from this act, it is said that three new deities were born; Amaterasu, the sun goddess, Tsukiyomi, the god of the moons, and Susano'o, the god of storms.

To carry out her pledge, it is also said that within Yomi, Izanami began to birth a new type of creature, a demonic entity of sheer mass and strength, to blot out the creations of Izanagi, called Oni.

Follower's Mantra

Soiled by Yomi's Filth;

The taint of the Underworld,

Izanagi wept.

Seeking purity;

The Way of the Cleansing Rite,

The Maker God bathed.

And from these waters,

Were begat Sun, Moon, and Storm.

Walk Purity's Way.
