Staff of Four Seasons

This staff evolves over time and adjusts to the seasons. Believed to originally be a branch of one of the Walking Trees of Valenwood its existence is challenged as a boon to some, a heresy of the Green Pact to others.


Dormant State

This staff functions as a +1 magical Quarterstaff. While wielding this staff, the attuned gains charges with which to use bonus spells granted to the attuned. The staff has 8 charges and regains 1d6+2 expended charges daily, at dawn. If all charges are expended, roll 1d20. On a 1, the staff loses all foliage and is no longer magical, becoming a mundane and rotted gnarled wooden staff.

The seasons shape the boons of its use:

In Winter: melee attacks made with the staff, while one charge yet remains, adds 1d4 cold damage to melee damage rolls. (this does not consume the charge) You have access to the following spells: Ice Knife (1 charge), Darkvision (2 charges), and Sleet Storm (3 charges)
In Spring: 
melee attacks made with the staff, while one charge yet remains, adds 1d4 radiant damage to melee damage rolls. (this does not consume the charge) You have access to the following spells: Guiding Bolt (1 charge), Moonbeam (2 charges), and Plant Growth (3 charges)
In Summer: 
melee attacks made with the staff, while one charge yet remains, adds 1d4 fire damage to melee damage rolls. (this does not consume the charge) You have access to the following spells: Burning Hands (1 charge), Spike Growth (2 charges), and Fireball (3 charges)
In Autumn: 
melee attacks made with the staff, while one charge yet remains, adds 1d4 necrotic damage to melee damage rolls. (this does not consume the charge) You have access to the following spells: Inflict Wounds (1 charge), Pass Without A Trace (2 charges), and Vampiric Touch (3 charges)

Once per day, you can spend 10 minutes to ritually change the season the staff represents. It will remain in that seasonal form for the next 8 hours. Afterwards, it will revert back to the appropriate season for the time of year.


Awakened State

The staff's magical status increases from +1 to +2.

The bonus damage dealt on melee strikes increases from 1d4 to 1d6.

The staff gains 5 more charges. Charges refreshed change from 1d6+2 to 1d10+3. Additional spells are unlocked for usage:

In Winter, you gain access to the Ice Storm (4 charges) spell.
In Spring, you gain access to the Guardian of Nature (4 charges) spell.
In Summer, you gain access to the Fire Shield (4 charges) spell.
In Autumn, you gain access to the Blight (4 charges) spell.


Exalted State

The staff's magical status increases from +2 to +3.

The bonus damage dealt on melee strikes increases from 1d6 to 1d8.

The staff gains 7 more charges. Charges refreshed change from 1d10+3 to 1d14+6. Additional spells are unlocked for usage:

In Winter, you gain access to the Control Winds (5 charges) spell.
In Spring, you gain access to the Creation (5 charges) spell.
In Summer, you gain access to the Commune with Nature (5 charges) spell.
In Autumn, you gain access to the  Hallow (5 charges) spell.
