This shield has an odd design but is clearly made from a Dwarven style. One of a few artifacts made from Dwarven metal and themes, it has still been imbued with Daedric magic. This shield has often been part of many tales across the ages of fights against cults of worship, whether divine or fiendish. The most well-known story about Spellbreaker relates to a story between its wielder, King Rourken of the Dwemer, and the Legendary Wizard, Shalidor.
Wondrous Item, Shield, Artifact, Requires Attunement
Dormant State
As an action, while wielding this shield, you can take a "Block" Action. A block action imposes this shield between you and your enemies, granting you a Ward against magical assault. Similar to the "Arcane Ward" feature of Abjuration Wizards, this action blocks damage from spells and other magical effects (not weapons) up to an amount of damage dealt. The Damage Threshold presented with this action takes damage before Temporary HP or your normal HP Pool. The Damage Threshold of this ability is 15 HP. This Ward can be activated twice. Once used, you must complete a long rest to use it again. When the ward is reduced to 0, this ability ends, and another use must be triggered to activate it again.
Awakened State
The Damage Threshold of this item increases to 30 HP. It also gains an additional use, per day.
Your Armor Class, against spell attacks, gains a bonus of +2. When you avoid a spell attack because of this boost, you can use a reaction to absorb the spell into the shield. Doing so, replenishes the damage threshold of the shield by the amount of damage avoided, up to its maximum Threshold.
Exalted State
The Damage Threshold of this item increases to 45 HP. It also gains an additional use, per day.
Once per day, instead of adding absorbed spell damage into Spellbreaker's Ward, you can instead use a reaction to send the spell back at the caster. Roll a new attack roll and if it hits, the caster takes the damage instead.
