Half-Breed

No scholar is truly sure how a half-breed is truly able to exist. All other examples of ancestries interbreeding has simply created another of one singular parental ancestry... except with humans for some reason.

Lylas Grinoux, Legends of Mankind

Humans are known for three things, the first is their abnormally mundane nature, the second is their wanton desire to lay claim to land. And the third is their ability to genetically intertwine with other ancestries. Many scholars attribute their ability to produce hybrids, and more specifically non-sterile hybrids, with their mundanity. Their inherently non-magical being allows for the magic of other ancestries to intermingle, dampening the other ancestry's magic, but creating a viable offspring.

The most common variety of half-breed are half-elves, primarily due to the fact that there are many subspecies of elves on Consarcio. While half-wode elves, half-high elves, half-deep elves, and more are all very different in their natural abilities, they tend to be socially more similar than other half-breed. The other most common types are half-orcs and half-dwarves, also known as Mul, but still definitely to a lesser extent than half-elves. Other kinds of half-breed are much less common, though still not impossible.

Not ______ Enough

Most half-breeds consider themselves as trapped between two worlds, unable to fully fit in with either side. A half-orc may lack the full effect of their orcish bloodfire, while a half-high elf lacks the longer lifespan that allows their elven side to focus on the minutia of life. But the same goes for their human side, the pure mundanity of a human gets nullified when genetically intermingled with a magical ancestry.

These differences aren't just on their physical characteristics, but also when interacting with members of their parental ancestries. A half-wode elf raised among humans might not understand the intricacies of the wode they are walking through. Or a Mul raised with dwarves can help in mining by channeling their human endurance. But the dwarves might not understand why the mul can't handle all the heat of the forge that the dwarves resist with their tough skin.
