All her life she had found that her communion with the kami could have unexpected consequences. It was as if the kami would fight for her attention. She had long feared what might happen if she were to lose control of her spellcasting. When she was younger, she resigned herself to remaining quiet and unnoticed, so that she was not called upon to use her spiritual abilities, concentrating instead on physical training.
Yet since arriving in Ryoko Owari she had begun to feel like she might be able to bring honor and glory to her clan and family after all. Abbot Okawa helped her to see that the seeming contradictions of Daikoku reflected those of a shugenja that felt she could only trust her physical body. Meanwhile Jotomon-sensei helped her to refine those physical skills as well refine her understanding of bushido. Her self-confidence improved greatly and she no longer feared being noticed.
But this has been her greatest fear brought to life. Despite her training she was unable to come to the aid of her sensei, either physically or spiritually. She fell prey to her emotions and made everything worse. Not only did she start the fire but perhaps Jotomon-sensei could still have been saved or at least the perpetrator apprehended were it not for her.
