Born in Ādīsi Geneti, Salaq is probably The New Republic of Bēti's richest man and indeed one of the richest men on Orth; a shrewd, intelligent and charismatic entrepreneur with a love for fine dining, women, and unusual if lucrative business investments (notably being one of the benefactors of both Manu Raharuhi's voyage to the Western Isles and Hathor Nepthys Ivarsdottir's archeological dig around Veg Darul alongside business partner Saskia Byrne, amongst other things.) Salaq's fortune is entirely self-made and allows him to live his lavish playboy lifestyle without worry.
Apart from being a born-and-bred Adisian with a noted love of his home city, very little is known about his past publicly. He is noted to have acquired a leg injury at some point (revealed in Beneath the Mountain to be due to an experimental engine created by Hathor Nepthys Ivarsdottir exploding), and in order to walk comfortably requires a cane. Additionally he wears an eyepatch, though it is unknown if this is to hide an injury or some other reason.
