The Lords of the Golden Hills is the gnomish pantheon of gods who resided in
the astral dominion of The Golden Hills under their leader Garl Glittergold. Similar to the
Faerûnian Pantheon, each deity holds a Portfolio, which is a literal as well as figurative list
of the aspects of existence that the god represents and holds dominion over.
The pantheon is hierarchical, with power, influence, and title determined by
the number of followers and their relative piety; however, The Lords of the
Golden Hills only has one Greater Deity, Garl Glittergold.
Greater Deities exhibit almost unlimited power, have Portfolios that encompass fundamental aspects of existence, and have the most followers, who usually number in the millions. Intermediate Deities have considerable power but pale in comparison to their Greater counterparts and generally have followers in the hundreds of thousands. Lesser Deities are usually servants of stronger deities and have followers in the tens of thousands. The key distinction between True Deities and other less powerful deities is the ability to grant spells to their followers.
Interestingly, there are no female deities in the gnomish pantheon. Legends
teach of the existence of The Ladies of the Golden Hills who were somehow lost
to their male counterparts as well as to history. The Lords of the Golden
Hills were extremely active in the lives of gnomes by dispatching their
avatars and chosen on quests that indirectly benefited gnomes. It was
extraordinarily rare for the Lords to appear before their worshipers,
preferring to play the role of mysterious benefactors.
