In the summer of The Year of Knowledge Unearthed, 1451 DR, the famed city of Neverwinter was virtually destroyed by a cataclysmic volcanic eruption now referred to as The Ruining.  The city's infrastructure and population were decimated, and the ruling Alagondar dynasty was believed to have been lost. With help from several adventuring heroes, the citizens of Neverwinter managed to survive the onslaught and regain control of their city but at great sacrifice to loss of life and property. With resources depleted, rebuilding and repopulating efforts in Neverwinter stagnated and the region teetered on the verge of total collapse. Then, at the depths of those darkest hours, fortunes seem to change. It is the Year of the Plagued Lords, 1471 DR, and Dagult Neverember has managed to bring relative stability and safety in the newly christened Protector's Enclave district. However, the majority of Neverwinter still lacks any semblance of law and order. The city is fractured into disparate districts with numerous factions battle for influence and power. Enterprising individuals have unparalleled freedom to create their own roles in such an ill-defined society, but they must carefully balance between many competing interests...
