A shawm is a double-reed instrument similar to an oboe. Its sound is loud, shrill and buzzing. If played well, the sound of a shawm is clear and melancholic, reminiscent of migrating geese.
Shawms are common among gnomes of Faerûn, who have developed versions of powered by bellows. They are also used in Zakhara.
