The Killcutters (a name well fit for them) were a loose gang of thieves and river pirates that plagued the Strongwater during King Taron's reign. Being unable to control them, he left it to the ancestors of the Bowsprit family (equally thuggish, but loyal to Herras) to keep them in line. Eventually, the Bowsprits accomplished this by a collection of political marriages, which resulted in Killcutter descendants gaining status.
No one dared challenge them and while they don't still commit to piracy, members of the family can be found in some illicit pursuits. While crossing the Killcutter family can be bad, having them in your favor or boon is exceptionally valuable. It's thought that the current Killcutter senior leadership are in league with the Bowsprit family to smuggle in illegal cargo (poisons, slaves, etc.). The most notable of these is Adrial Killcutter, former sea captain and owner of The Twisted Belt.
