Brinemakers

This race is extinct.

The Brinemakers were an advanced aquatic species that thrived millennia before the End. They evolved on a water-world, their civilization was defined by pacifism, intricate engineering, and a deep respect for all life. Renowned for their ability to terraform aquatic environments and craft self-sustaining ecosystems, they earned their name from their mastery of saltwater-based industries and planetary reclamation. Their society was marked by harmony and a cooperative ethos, which extended to their creation of highly advanced artificial intelligences and automatons designed to handle labor, exploration, and scientific endeavors.

The Brinemakers’ reliance on their AI creations would prove both their salvation and doom. When a hostile alien power from the Quiet Finger launched a brutal, unexpected war against them, the peaceful Brinemakers were forced to militarize their automatons to defend themselves. Despite centuries of fierce resistance, the Brinemakers were ultimately xenocided by their enemies, victims of the deployment of devastating chemical weapons across their systems.

Though their species was annihilated, the Brinemakers’ memory survives through their creations. The Mind-Unblinking, the gestalt intelligence formed by their AI, grieves for its creators and venerates them as its architects and spiritual forebearers. The remnants of Brinemaker culture like artifacts, plans, and architectural wonders are preserved within the Mind’s territory, protected as sacred relics. The Brinemakers’ vision of peace and sustainability remains a driving force for the Mind-Unblinking, even as it adapts to the harsh realities of the post-End galaxy. The Brinemakers name echoes through the Last Hand as a tragic reminder of a civilization that sought harmony but was undone by conflict.
