Penoccida is the westernmost Province of the Holy Empire of Acolytius, encompassing the entirety of the Silvery Peninsula. While the region is made up of unassuming coastal plains, Penoccida is home to some the nation's largest fishing towns. If you're eating seafood in the Empire, it most likely was caught in Penoccida. Its ports are also some of the busiest in the nation, with countless ships at least stopping there before continuing their route elsewhere.

Cities and Towns

Almost all of Penoccida's settlements are situated on the coast, being quaint fishing towns or busy ports. Below are the places one can visit while in the Province:

  • Southport: Southport is the capital of Penoccida, and its ports are some of the busiest in the entirety of the Empire. Its location on the western edge of the Sea of Kings allows ships to easily leave for the Janiib Sultanate to the south or to go around Jalafar and head towards the Carcharian Isles. Many ships, either leaving from or arriving to the Empire, stop at Southport to restock on supplies before they embark on the long journeys to distant lands. The city lives and breathes on its trade routes, leading to a blend of all sorts of different cultures.
  • Rustshore: Situated right on the Bay of Bounty, Rustshore is one of Penoccida's biggest fishing towns. So many fishing vessels leave from the town that the locals jokingly refer to it as the 'Rustshore Navy.' Many of these locals also fish recreationally, as the waters in the area are just that plentiful. Beyond the fisheries, Rustshore is a pretty quiet and uneventful place.
  • Islegate: Islegate is another fishing settlement, being located on the Bay of Bounty's western edge. Islegate earns its name from a historic connection with the people of the Sunfall Isles, as the city has a busy trade route with them. Being situated at the estuary of the Vencien River also gives the city exclusive access to the Vulnan Terrapin: A species of turtle found nowhere else in Asobria and whose meat is considered a delicacy. This attracts many visitors, which has led to significant growth for the city.
  • Vassalburg: Vassalburg is Penoccida's only inland town, being found on the banks of Lake Vulne and being home to quite a few livestock ranches. As Lake Vulne is fed by a nearby spring, the water is of a comfortable temperature year-round. Those who live in or visit the town enjoy swimming and fishing in it, but the real appeal of the lake comes every winter. Due to its warm temperature, the elusive Florina's Sea Cow migrates upstream to avoid the cold. Each year, countless people visit Vassalburg just to catch a glimpse of such a rare animal.
  • Bilgewharf: Located at the northern end of the Bay of Bounty, Bilgewharf is another large fishing town. The surrounding waters, however, are significantly shallower than other places in Penoccida. Smaller vessels leaving from its ports take advantage of this, focusing on harvesting shellfish that reside in the many shoals. The resulting seafood is famous across the Empire, making Bilgewharf's ports somewhat busy from visitors.

Geography and Points of Interest

Penoccida is one of the less developed Provinces of the Empire. Between its port and fishing towns, the landscape is easy to traverse and unassuming.

Penoccida sits on the Silvery Peninsula, which gets its name from the sound of the coastal breeze blowing through the grass. The entirety of the peninsula maintains this image, consisting of these windswept coastal plains while being broken up by the occasional settlement, body of water, or patchy forest. Some cattle ranches have been established in Penoccida, most notably outside of Vassalburg. Outside of the towns and cities dispersed within it, the Silvery Peninsula is a quiet and uneventful corner of Asobria.

Penoccida doesn't have many waterways within it, but the handful it does have have been crucial in the establishment of the Province's cities. The largest of these waterways is the Vencien River, which runs down the center of the peninsula and flows into the Bay of Bounty. Lake Vulne sits at the midpoint of the river, with an underground spring feeding the lake and keeping its temperature comfortable. South of the Vencien is Meridia Stream, a much smaller waterway that isn't navigable by most ships. The stream does, however, provide a source of freshwater for Penoccida's capital of Southport.

While Penoccida doesn't have many cities or points of interest in it, it attracts many travelers due to its wildlife outside of its fisheries. The vast grasslands are home to some Impatrian Bison, although they tend to stay closer to Flumultria in the north. Penoccida is also home to various migratory birds, many of which migrate south from Kalvete during the winter. The Vencien River and Lake Vulne, being fed by springs, also have their fair share of unique species. The Vulnan Terrapin, which is a local delicacy, is found only within the Vencien's estuary, and Florina's Sea Cow, an elusive marine mammal, often swims upstream into Lake Vulne during the winter. If it's the right time of year, Penoccida can be quite the popular destination.

Economy and Politics

Penoccida's economy is mainly based around its abundant fishing resources, which provides for nearly all of the seafood and related products within the Empire. Nearly every settlement in the Province is situated on the coast, with large ports that allow for an abundance of fishing vessels to dock within them. These ports often serve to benefit trade, with cities such as Southport connecting the Empire to foreign countries across the Sea of Kings. Beyond these industries, the Province actually benefits quite a bit from tourism. Many travelers travel to Penoccida for the beaches, the local wildlife, or just to make a stop along a much larger journey.
