The Order is an organization dedicated to the worship of Gaial, in the loosest sense of the word. Moreso it is devoted to the upholding of order, the status quo, and other elements related to Gaial, but very rarely devoted to the figure itself. The homeland of the Order is located in the northern half of the continent on the right side, right next to Teckitan, and is much smaller than other countries, being hard to spot on the world map (it's not there don't look).
History
The Order has gone through multiple variations and has many predecessors dating all the way back to the Wild Era. The first instance of an Order-related predecessor would be the one founded by Devkamur Das, an Emissary of Gaial, who was contacted one day by the Ancient God to spread word of his brilliance. Devkamur would later go on to found the Fervoni Holy Church, one of the first religious institutions in the world, quickly gaining power and merging with other churches to create the Fervoni Holy Union, one of the major powers in the Wild Era. Devakamur would name himself Supreme Holy Grandmaster of the Divine Union, the unquestioned leader of the Union. The title would later be shortened to just the Grandmaster to make it more digestible.
When The Alammar Empire began to accrue more power, the Fervoni would back the up and coming Empire in accordance with the wishes of Gaial, who was rooting for William the Great to take over the world along with the rest of the gods. The Union's support for William played a huge part in his ability to rise to power and conquer the rest of the continent. Because of this support, and at the urging of Gaial, the Fervoni Holy Union was given a large hand in the governing and affairs of the Alammar Empire.
Despite this connection and level of influence within the Empire, however, the Fervoni Union clashed with the High King and the rest of the government a multitude of times, most notably with William the Second, or more colloquially known as William the Bold, who sought to unify the different churches and religions in the Alammar Empire into a singular homogeneous pantheon in order to better unify the different peoples of the Empire. The Fervoni along with a number of different churches fought against William the Bold in this regard, supported by the gods themselves as they all hated each other. Eventually William mostly lost the struggle, but not without destabilizing and undermining the Union's authority.
During The Splintering, the Fervoni Holy Union underwent significant internal struggles, particularly on whether or not to join the Imperial forces or the rebels. The Fervoni Union was also undergoing structural issues. The structure of the leadership of the Union was shoddy, and more recently was extremely prone to corruption and bribes. Plus, the mysticism and unknowableness, plus the supposed divinity of Gaial was beginning to be called into question with more Emissaries beginning to realize that the gods were actually kind of terrible people. This led to a power struggle after the death of Grandmaster Julian during the same time as the Splintering, leading to the Fervoni Holy Union being replaced by the Order, a new, hopefully less corrupt version of the Union.
After the formation of the Order, nothing much really changed. Traditionalists and those who wholeheartedly believed in Gaial were insistent on the Order remaining the same despite attempts at reform and restructuring. Even with all this internal struggle, the Order went on to play a vital part in international politics, helping found the Coalition of Nations during the Age of Frost and supporting the independence of the Kingdom of Ravenna against the Kingdom of Vysokiy.
However, the internal pressure, plus the unclear structure of the Order and the dwindling number of incoming members would result in the Order Reformation Acts, and a split in the Order between the traditionalists and the reformists in the Order. After a standoff in which nearly resulted in civil war, the traditionalists would go off to form the True Church of Gaial in the Kingdom of Falglor, where they would inevitably die out due to lack of new members.
The Order would assume the role of "policeman of the world", to varying degrees of success for the rest of it's time, intervening in politics whenever they think necessary, making an enemy out of Falglor, and being the first one to strike at Uthan during the Blood War and cementing itself as a major power in the modern day.
Governmental System
The Order is first and foremost led by a Grandmaster, officially known as the Supreme Grandmaster of the Holy Union, a byproduct from the days of the Fervoni Holy Union, though most people just call the head of the Order the Grandmaster. The Grandmaster is typically an Emissary and is elected from within the higher ranks by the High Priests upon the death of the previous one. The Order is centered in their heartland, the northern half of the continent around the Citadel, the official capital of the Order, though they do command a number of other churches throughout the world, each locally run but still reporting to the church polity.
