Erdo Elfast

Clover Claw

Erdo Elfast is a human hunter-mercenary and a Claw of the Claw of Arali working out of Cloverhall in Reedenford. Erdo is a strangely tortured man that is quick to anger, and often irrationally irritated. While he is somewhat skilled and knowledgeable about the Atherdale province and its surrounding nature, he is also a bit of a coward, though he is still quite reckless regardless. He is a habitual liar, but is ceaselessly loyal to those he cares about.

Description

Erdo is an average height human male with shaggy black hair, tan skin, and brown eyes. He usually carries a longsword on his hip, wearing leather armor and hide underneath it. He usually carries a pack of supplies with him. Most of his equipment is weathered from years of use.

Erdo has a prickly personality, and is quick to find faults in others. He is also quite insecure in his own personality and abilities, and responds to his feelings of inadequacy by lashing out at those around him. He pursues his goals relentlessly and recklessly, though his cowardly nature will shine through if faced with overwhelming odds. He lies constantly, and his nature makes it appear as if he is hiding something, but generally he is just lying for the sake of it. Still, if one can see past his many shortcomings, Erdo is an incredibly loyal friend.

Skills and Abilities

Erdo is decent in a fight, trained in a number of different weapons and fighting styles. However, his true worth is in his knowledge of his environment and his preparedness to deal with a number of possible scenarios. Erdo's relentless nature makes him a reliable partner in a job.

History

Erdo joined the Claw of Arali somewhere between Iron 976 to 981, a fact he constantly lies about. In Iron 982, he was moved to Cloverhall in Reedenford following some alleged "bad business" in his former post.

Erdo become good friends with the tabaxi Jumps Through Lies during his time at Cloverhall, and the two worked many missions together over the years. He also became close with the gnome paladin Tamidilly Rideonvattle, as the both of them were fond of drink. In Iron 988, Jumps Through Lies was killed during a mission by the Lathotas Rampager, and Erdo began attempting to gather information about the beast, though he was too fearful to track it himself.

In his quest to learn more about the lathotas, Erdo commissioned some of the new Initiates of Cloverhall in Iron 989 to accompany him out to the deep eastern forests of the Scratchwood, where he eventually made an offering to a strange old woman living in a hut amongst the darkest dangers of the woods. He then learned the nature of the lathotas, and that it had been driven to madness by some enchantment. Erdo angered the Initiates somewhat by leading them under false pretenses, seemingly for no reason. Tensions were further strained after a "bandit" attack gravely wounded Caedali. Regardless, the group made it back to town safely and Erdo was thankful for their help, giving each a healthy amount of gold before disappearing into the night.

Erdo continued to conduct research on the lathotas Rampager alone, traveling to Bucktuck City to put in an order for a rare book that detailed the specific habits and weaknesses of the creature. Learning the creature could potentially be taken down with piercing bolts of silver, Erdo began to craft a crossbow-like device that could drive spears of silver into the skin of the Rampager with great force. Working with a Reedenford local to create the machine, soon after its completion Erdo headed out to confront the beast and kill it or die trying.

Erdo caught onto the Rampager's trail while it was traveling to southern Atherdale, and began peppering it full of bolts from strategic locations that the Rampager could not easily reach. He then began a battle of attrition with the beast, constantly stalking it and refusing it rest, eventually causing it to flee north into the Scratchwood. Erdo himself suffered greatly from this, and his scuffles with the Rampager took a heavy toll on his body. In the forest, he met up with the Cursebusters, who were traveling back to Reedenford from Thaloss Zinir. Convincing them to help, Erdo tracked the Rampager to a maze-like glade, where the group engaged it in a final stand. Erdo continually short more of his spears into the Rampager as the group hammered them in, eventually wearing it down to the point where it could no longer move. Erdo then, slowly, began cutting off the head of the lathotas, decapitating it in an act of catharsis for his friend's death. Soon after, Erdo passed out from exhaustion, and headed back to Reedenford. He later awarded his allies with some gold, a strange medallion rumored to be useful in Bucktuck City, and Krogdim's Potent Spigot.
