Rot Walker

Also Known As: The Walking Dead, The Living Corpses

“Death is a powerful thing on its own, but once harnessed it can become a harbinger of total doom”
— The Librarian

Cursed with the affliction known only as 'The Rot', these wandering husks long ago abandoned their humanity, now driven solely by the relentless urge to spread the infection.

Roaming through forgotten corners of Mintarn, such as its desolate swamps and deep caverns, they often lie dormant until stirred, then reconnecting with the hive mind that commands them, relentlessly pursuing any life form they encounter.

There exist various types of Rot-beasts, yet the most prevalent are humanoid manifestations of the plague, comprised of poor village folk or foolhardy adventurers who ventured beyond their limits.

Despite their sluggish movements, never underestimate them, lest you want to join their ranks...

History

During Waterdeep's Mintarn Initiative, the Waterdhavian nobles assigned Aeron Illiam and Vladimir Drulk in charge of maintaining the island. Drulk, with Illiam's funding, founded a magic college in Port Mintarn where he experimented with Lycanthropes, Necromancy, and a strange parasite. These combination of factors eventually led to humanoid test subjects.

These experiments led to the creation of The Rot, a dangerous ever-evolving disease that affects humanoid creatures. It turns their skin a saturated shade of grey while growing their teeth and fingers into fangs and claws. These creatures were later known as the Rot Walkers.

Abilities

Rot Walkers and their evolutionary lineage all have the ability to scratch and bite, while some can even shoot putrid bursts with their decaying gag reflex. Bites and Putrid Bursts that enter the bloodstream have the ability to spread the Rot into the affected victim.

Mintarn Quarantine

In 1489, Mintarn was put under strict quarantine by the powers that be in Waterdeep, the City of Splendors. The official reason was due to the outbreak of various Sewer Plagues on the island, but the truth laid in the release of Rot Walkers into Port Mintarn and the surrounding areas. The knowledge of their release is unknown to the greater public as The War of Dragons was in full swing taking the attention away from the event on Mintarn.
