The Badawi (Ba'hramic for "Sailors") are the nomadic natives of the Ba'hram Desert, specifically the Dune Sea. They are contrasted with the Med'ny who live in the desert's permanent settlements. The Badawi live in villages called Nuqabi which are built onto the backs of gargantuan creatures called Anqall. They have a mutualistic relationship with the anqall, protecting them from danger while utilizing their mobility to travel between oases.

The name “Badawi” means “sailor,” as the Badawi consider themselves sailors of the Dune Sea, their ships being the great Anqall.

For reasons unknown, people of the Ba’hram, both Med'ny and Badawi, have a much higher instance of blue eyes compared to the general populace.

Water is of utmost importance to the Badawi people, and they make all available efforts to preserve it.

The Badawi are largely organized into tribal societies based around a single Nuqabi. Badawi organize their societies into nations called Q'kar. The Q'kar is seen as both one's nationality and an extended family unit. Badawi do not observe family names, instead one's surname is the name of their Q'kar. For example, every member of the Q'kar Sazam bears the surname "Sazam."
