The Qatan are a race of humanoid people who inhabit the continent of Ya'ardamat. They are of the Yalid peoples and were adopted by Si'ita during the Third Age. They are a shy and reclusive people who largely keep to the treetops and burrows of the endless jungles of Ya'ardamat.
The Qatan are short, furry, possess slitted cat-like eyes, and have four clawed fingers on each hand. They have dappled fur, giving them a deer-like appearance. Their similarities to the Fey have been noted by many scholars, with Archmagus Illion going as far to speculate that their ancestors came from Arborea before the main migration of the Fey at some point during Prehistory.
Unlike the less intelligent Migoi-che, the Qatan are as intelligent as Beldkind. There are small Qatan villages which occasionally trade with foreigners on the shores of Ya'ardamat, though many of them also make tempting prey for slavers.
Qatan adorn themselves with leaves and wood fibers and are known to be experts at fashioning things out of plants.
There are no male Qatan. To procreate, the Qatan mate and lay with the Migoi-che, though they exclusively form romantic relationships with their own kind.
Qatan typically live to be 500.
