Rhyna is the widow of Guthjun Zurinda, of Clan Zurinda. He was a miner, a stone mason of unusual skill, and a stone shaper. She was a stone singer, and that is how they met.
Guthjun and Rhyna Zurinda grew up in Zerhun, where stone shaping is still revered, working for Prince Kazar Tarazak himself. Prince Kazar would regularly travel to other places on the Isle in the guise of a merchant, and Guthjun was honored to accompany the Prince on a few of those excursions. A time came when Guthjun's skills were not as in demand in Zerhun, and he yearned for more challenging ore and exotic stone. On one trip to Cherafir they passed through Thay, and they both felt the pull of a unique type of blue granite. When Guthjun and Rhyna decided to move on from Zerhun, they settled in that area, in a town called Laket.
At first, the local masons in Laket were worried about competition from Guthjun, but they quickly learned that the Khuzdul were here for the love of stone and not for profit. Once the Khuzan couple located rich deposits of the granite, the local Masons' Guild set about utilizing it in the local architecture. Everyone prospered from the partnership. The Zurindas built themselves a dwelling that was plain stone outside, but a Khuzan fortress inside.
Just about ten years ago Guthjun and several Human miners were ambushed by a vicious group of Gargun. Nearby guards and the local Ranger came to their aid, but Guthjun and all but two of the miners were already dead. Guthjun was buried with honors in a large and expensive crypt in the graveyard on the hill in Laket.
Rhyna has carried her late husband's battle hammer with her ever since. It is a two handed weapon, with a Khuzan forged head that is half hammer and half miner's spike. She is quite skilled with it as a weapon. Rhyna cannot read Old Futhark, so she did not know that the runes on one side of the weapon's massive head reads "Zurinda" and the other side reads "Khazaruk." That is, until they were translated to her by a new acquaintance, another Khuzdul named Hjalgrimm Grimbraid.
