Devils whisper where temptation thrives. They plant ideas, provoke desire, and test the limits of choice—revealing the cost of every indulgence.
Primordial beings of pure evil (Drak, the Devils exist to cause temptation and suffering wherever they go. Devils are typically invisible when they approach mortals, subtly whispering in their ears and planting bad ideas in their heads. However, they only place the idea - they have no true mind control. They are capable of possession, but only if the mortal lets them in!
Like all Primordials, Devils can shapeshift into any form of their choosing. When appearing to mortals, they often take on the shape of a mortal or another type of primordial, but many use grotesque or monstrous forms as well. Devils collect bits of souls in the form of secrets, memories, or emotions, whenever they cause the type of suffering they are designed to. They get stronger when their collection is bigger, and weaker when it is smaller. These bits of souls are impermanent, and fade as the victim heals or moves on. Devils can also have almost any kind of magical power, though few of them are built for direct combat.
Most Devils were created to oppose a specific Angel, Archon, or Daemon—this being is their nemesis. Each Devil possesses an ability specifically designed to thwart their counterpart. These nemesis pairs are locked in eternal conflict; some Primordials relentlessly hunt their Devil, others flee from them, and some engage in more subtle forms of opposition. While Devils are generally the weakest of the Primordials, they hold a unique advantage over their nemesis, whom they were created to undermine.
When contending with Devils, there are a few weaknesses and rules to keep in mind. Firstly, a Devil always has to keep to a deal it makes. If there is a handshake or a contract, then it is binding to both parties. Secondly, nothing comes for free, and that also goes both ways: if a Devil does something for you, then they will feel you owe them; if you do something for a Devil, then they feel they owe you. Thirdly, Devils cannot comprehend or understand love.
All that being said, Devils aren’t strictly one-dimensional beings of misery; they have wants, fears, desires, and even certain loyalties. They have all cravings of the flesh and many of them pursue these to the fullest. They are always evil at heart, but some are capable of selflessness for those they care about.
