Dear Friends,
My research has taken me to Myth Drannor in search of a Mythallar so I will likely not return
before your departure. However, I’m afraid it appears we are not the only people interested in
shadow magic and The Nightstone.
There is an organization called “The Unknown” that came into existence many years ago lead mostly by powerful wizards. They operated under the phrase “Acquisition is Prevention.” Their goal was to acquire all the world’s most dangerous and powerful weapons. By gathering the powerful magic items of the world, they believed they could prevent their use and ensure peace. Over the years, as I’m sure you can imagine, the organization became infested with corruption and became a haven for those seeking power. Roughly 400 years ago, the organization was overtaken, the leaders killed or banished and their possessions distributed or destroyed.
I’m afraid they may have been restarted. There is word from the east that a small group of mages have combined forces and are, at the very least, researching items. Apparently, they sent a team of novice wizards to do some research on the Nightstone. I don’t know where the research team is now but I suspect they’ve at least inspected the stone. I would very much like to know where that team is now and what they discovered. But, a more pressing concern of mine is how they learned of the Nightstone to begin with. Knowledge of the stone and its prior use was lost long ago to all but a handful of people.
We need to determine how they learned of the stone and its ancient purpose. In the City of the Dead, there lies a tomb, the Tomb of Sages, within which is buried all of Waterdeep’s most prized academics including the founder of The Arcandor Materia, Demiryn Lagustin. He was buried with one book, Per Historia Arcandor Materia. I hesitate to ask more of you all as you’ve already done so much but we need that book. The tombs in the City of the Dead are dangerous so please be prepared.
Thank you my friends and safe journey to Moonshae. I know you all need a well-deserved rest.
Your Friend,
E
