Session 104: 16th August 2022 - Home

Xan stands on the top of the ship, watching her companions disappear around the bay, tiny figures speaking to her. Idylla. She had been blindsided by her presence. Xan felt her face flush red, she hadn’t held her own on the dock.

As they turn the cliff she sees a wisp of light around Theo as he transforms his form. As she turns her head back round to guide the ship up the coast towards the pirate cove, she spots the place on the hill, her precious home. Or where it once stood. It stands a skeleton of a building, the roof gone and only a corner of the structure standing. She averts her eyes.

They arrive at the other side of the island, a familiar cove that Xan had sailed into every time. Xan, Hippofilius, Helikaon and Braz group together to approach the dock, with the Ancient Mariner at their side.

Captain Gold complimented their ship - Xan lets him know it is heavily guarded but in the same back and forth confirms to Gold that they are allies of hers - she wouldn’t get on a ship with others she didn’t trust.

Gold tells them when Taryn arrived, he watched and got cosy with the former nobles and merchants, Stavros turned up dead. An election took place and Taryn was elected - very suspicious.

More recently, in an act of protest at the unfair circumstances, the pirates said they would remove the support of their services, but then the King sent soldiers after them. This is what started the civil war.

Some others who may have been good in place

Idylla - Xan’s grandmother

Tyrone - loudmouth, popular, might be alright, was excited for demagoguery

Keelan - local legend lives on his own, was a gladiator who killed his brother over a woman, when he got here the island was full of worse people and he regrets his decision. He hates everyone on the island.

Braz asked if any non-exiles have ever been a king, but as far back as they can count there was not. They head into the pirates cove, and dump their rowboat into the water.

They pass the mudlarks, a group fo smaller kids who route through the mud and scavenge items. They duck under a little archway and out to the vast collection of small inlets. Captain Gold calls it The Maw.

They pass by the Bronze Bell, a fine estabslishment where you can get a drink.

Further on they see a large pile of wood and parts from a ship creating a huge pile with a lookout spot at the top. Xan hops over the wood, skipping a little higher than she should have.

They go past the temple of the Five, which is made of beautiful shells, then loop round to the complicated structure of the home of Captain Gold and his crew. He waves to his wife, Ismene.

Gold tells them he will march on the soldiers at dawn. He asks them to go and get the boar on the island and bring them the poison from it’s horns, to weaken the soldiers. Xan disagrees with him, and saying they should talk about it longer. He leaves them to go and prepare the pirates, leaving them. Xan suggests they go to speak to Gold’s wife, to try to find out more information about it.

Next time:

Ask her who she thinks killed Steros - how did he die?

Who else died?

When was the last murder?

Ask her is she remembers her mother or saw anything that day

The murders:

They claim that the 4 killings on the island were done by the same person - 3 women and Stavros.

They suspect a Messeas member called Tad - he murdered 6 women outside of the island.

Tad was odd, spoke to himself and screamed to the gods, but there was skill to his madness, he built ships and houses.

He is the most skilled woodworker and stonemaker on the island.

If it was him then they would take the loss, despite Stavros saying they wouldn’t kill him

Kephissa  thinks it was Keelan - the gladiator, philosopher who murdered his brother. He hates the island and everyone on it. However he is not violent, but it could be believable.

Kephissa said she would have gone for the throne if Taryn was not on the island.

Kephissa is the daughter of Stavros. And is now the general of the island. Ismane is also his daughter.

Kephissa is the half sister of Ismane.
