01 - 00 - Roshar and the Dome

The story of Fhey so far:

It has been a while now since that portal dragged me out of Elantris into this strange world.  Every once and a while we send out a party to scout the nearby areas.  However, most of my days are spent squeezed in this stupidly small dome bored out of my mind.  I guess that’s why Ive decided to write this journal.

Apparently, we are in a world called Fhey, different from the Fey Wilds.  The most obvious feature of this world is the darkness.  There are no stars and the sun never rises, it's just pitch black all day, every day.  Lights are very important because the darkness isn't just darkness... it's alive, or magical, or something.  If you spend more than a few seconds in it without a light source it starts devouring you.  I've experienced this and I doubt I would be able to survive long if I hadn't had a light spell to cast.

Others like me were also pulled into this world the same way.  Some I know, others I don’t.  But we all seem to be in the same boat so we've been helping each other out.  We are currently living under this magical Dome we found.  It has many uses, such as providing shelter from the darkness.  It's also heated, which is great because it's fucking cold outside, often going below freezing.  However, I would argue that its most important feature is that it shields us from the storms.  I have no other way to describe the storms other than they are hurricanes on drugs.  I have been lucky enough to be able to find shelter every time one came through, I doubt it would be possible to survive in it otherwise.  Peering out from the dome I once saw that the wind was powerful enough to throw boulders around, and that was when the storm was dying down.

The dome also houses a Fountain.  Honestly calling it a 'fountain' isn't the best way to describe it.  We've come across something called Polestones, glass marble sized beads that have gems in them.  If we leave them out in a storm they start to glow, becoming charged.  They are a good light source but we've also found that we can insert them into the fountain.  When we do it powers up and a sentient being, a Fish, appears.  We've been able to talk to it and have learned that the fountain is a magical device once used by a group known as the Knights Radiant.

We have learned frustratingly little about the knights, at least for me.  They seemed to be protectors, using the fountain to power portals to other worlds.  They would travel through them to fight evil and help the innocent.  All of which is very noble.  However, for unknown reasons, they all decided to abandon their oaths and simply walk away.  Not knowing why really frustrates me, why would they do that?  Oh, and the oaths, I should probably mention that.  All the knights were apparently magically bound to an oath, breaking it would have consequences.  Several members of our group have decided to take them, rebirthing the Knights Radiant.  'Life before death.  Strength before weakness, journey before destination.'  Taking that oath gave them greater access to information from the fountain.  I don’t know what information though, because I obviously didn’t swear them.  Maybe one day we can learn more, apparently much of the data the fountain can provide has been corrupted.  Which we can fix if we find and bring back 'modules' aka pieces of it that has been lost.

Other than that there are only a few things to note.  On our scouting missions we've encountered Kobold, lots of kobolds.  There are five different clans, living all around us.  We’ve tried to negotiate with them and be friendly.  That route has been met with mixed results, I will admit partially due to things we've done.  However, we have gotten a potential alliance with one of the clans, should we prove ourselves.  We will see how that goes.

We also came across another group, a few people who use a spelljammer (Spelljammer Crew).  I don’t really understand it, it apparently is a ship that can travel between worlds through space?  Regardless of how that works they ran into problems after visiting this world.  Most of them were captured by the kobolds and taken as slaves.  We managed to rescue one, Kalopsia, and assisted her in rescuing the rest.  After being free they left on their spelljammer.  But I get the feeling this isnt the last time we will see them.

That leaves us with the Voidbringers, I will be honest in saying Ive been avoiding this subject.  Again very little is known about them.  They were once slaves until they broke free.  How they did so is unknown, but they are apparently the source of the darkness that covers Fhey.  They want to spread this incredibly depressive darkness to other worlds.  It would be nice if we could easily identify and kill these fucks.  However, they have the ability to shape shift.  On top of that they can read the mind of their victims, making themselves incredibly difficult to identify.  Anyone in our group could secretly be a member of the Voidbringers and we would have no idea.

Oh, I guess I should also mention the monsters we've encountered.  On our scouting missions we've encountered some interesting creatures.  There is a Roc who claims the area to the west as its' territory.  Even further west we've talked to a family of mutated saber tooth tigers  (Rusheono's Cave).  Both of these are obviously extremely dangerous.  However, the most dangerous is the Sand Monster, I really should come up with a better name for it.  its massive, probably a hundred or so feet in diameter.  Most of it exists beneath the sand, tendrils peeking out to see or attack.  I have no idea how we would fight it.  But I have been told by different sources that this creature came into being via a powerful artifact.  If we could kill it and retrieve said artifact... well let's just say I'm very curious as to what it is.
