Límíng City

Límíng City: The City of New Beginnings

A sprawling metropolis of innovation. Límíng embraced the magitech revolution, the once-humble city booming in size as throngs of people traveled here in hopes of riding this wave of change and opportunity to success.

Some found their fortune here as they hoped, becoming the heads of industry or rising to stardom in the burgeoning field of Unknown. Others, however, found themselves trampled beneath the glamour of the city. Crowded living spaces that cost far too much for their lack of comfort, dangerous conditions working in factories or at construction sites, or falling victim to the rampant crime that shelters in the shadow of the city lights.

City Districts

The city has been historically divided into three primary districts: Topside, the Crater District, and the Drain District. Each can be roughly sorted by the degree of wealth they hold, with Topside being the most wealthy and the Drains being the most impoverished.

Topside

Límíng proper, the sprawling surface level of the city. Built around the crater that marked its first settlement, Límíng is a fusion of tradition and progress. The industrial and business-heavy spans of the city tower with neon lights and skyscrapers while residential areas promise a quiet and idyllic close to the day. Away from the congestion of the inner city, the bordering homes are trimmed with gardens, ponds, and graceful rooftops.

The Crater District

Límíng city's origins are traced back to the aftermath of the Binding, starting as a humble settlement in the ruins of the earth. It blossomed outwards, and the entirety of Límíng has long outgrown this space. The district remains, built below the rest of the city and nearly buried by the roads and bridges that run over its head. In its deepest pits, the crater district is home to petty criminals and rob-you-blind businesses, though the worst of the city is said to be deserved for the Drains.

Límíng's roots remain, the walls and precipice of the crater housing the literal high society. These estates often belong to old money that rose to power in Límíng's earlier days.

The Drain District

For more information, see Drain District.

The deepest and most dismal portion of the city. At the epicenter of the crater is a wide hole that opens to an expanse of caverns below. A system of lifts and bridges have been constructed to allow people to delve into these depths, and settle as people do.

Out of sight and beneath the earth, the drains are named for the purpose that the upper portions of the city have relegated to it: a dumping ground for factory waste, draining through pipes into rivers and ditches. It is an industrial hub, containing the most dangerous and miserable conditions. The air is thick with fumes, both arcane and mundane. Homes here are typically small, crowded, and falling apart, though those without roofs over their head are a common sight. Despite the conditions of the drains, the word performed is essential to Límíng's industry.

The Yu Family

Límíng City and its surrounding territory is headed by the Yu Clan. While the Yu are best known for their role in Shikar and in the Light Weaving industry, it is an open secret that they also run the criminal underground of Límíng.

The Yu Clan is held in high regard. They are considered a venerable family with the born right to rule.
