Cheon Yeong-Suk

Description

The mother of Cheon Do-Yun and longtime member of Wanjiao. A refugee of the invasion of Hanae and former Jeonghwa shikarist, Yeong-Suk now faces the consequences of her youth.

Yeong-Suk is trained in traditional Param-in archery and stealth-based maneuvers. 

Within the Campaign

Liutubang first met Yeong-Suk in the town of Anwon. Liutubang participated in the hunt to eliminate the trolls in the area, and were received warmly by Yeong-Suk. 

Do-Yun attempted at several points to question Yeong-Suk about his history. Yeong-Suk continued to state that Do-Yun should stay out of the Spirit Realm, but did not give a clear answer as to why. 

When Malegami's deadline approached, Yeong-Suk fled into hiding. She has maintained sparse contact with Do-Yun.  

History

Yeong-Suk grew up in the Param-in town of Nonyong through the remnants of the Quyani invasion of Hanae. She was approached by Yuhae, a malevolent spirit, and took a deal to slaughter the invading soldiers. These soldiers were killed, along with every other denizen of Nonyong aside from Yeong-Suk herself.

Following the Nonyong Massacre, Yeong-Suk joined the Jeonghwa Sect. She met Takeda Kichiro while tracking rumors of a fox spirit. Kichiro deceived her, and the two became friends and later fell in love through the course of their interactions. Eventually Kichiro would reveal his nature as a half-spirit, and Yeong-Suk left the Jeonghwa to be with him. 

When Yeong-Suk became pregnant with Do-Yun, she was approached by Yuhae and learned of its claim on her child. She convinced Kichiro to join her in seeking Malegami for aid, and the two of them struck a deal to protect Do-Yun from Yuhae. The terms of the deal, however, made Do-Yun the price to be paid. 

Yeong-Suk abandoned Kichiro out of the fear that he would fulfill the deal. She was found by and joined Wanjiao, where she would stay to raise her son. 


Relationships

Cheon Do-Yun

As his mother, Yeong-Suk is protective of Do-Yun. She kept him in the dark about her history. He did not know of the massacre of her childhood, her deal with the fox spirit or with Malegami, or her history as a genuine shikarist. She raised him to fear the Spirit Realm and hid his kitsune heritage. Her obfuscation is born of fear and love, believing him to be safest not knowing and avoiding the Spirit Realm. She scolds him when he disobeys her lessons, but always assures him of her love. She is shown to be willing to go to great lengths for Do-Yun's safety even before he was born: the deal with Malegami had been conducted to protect him, and she had been willing to sentence another person to an eternity of suffering to do so.

Takeda Kichiro

Descriptions from Nam Eun-Ae picture Yeong-Suk and Kichiro as young lovers. Kichiro himself has implied a more fraught history, stating that they met when Yeong-Suk had been intending to kill him. However, they did end up in a committed relationship and intending to raise a child together. The results of Malegami's deal, however, appears to have broken their relationship. Yeong-Suk is now hostile towards Kichiro, trying to keep him away from Do-Yun.

Nam Eun-Ae

Yeong-Suk and Eun-Ae were disciples of the same sect. Though she greatly disapproved of Yeong-Suk's relationship with Kichiro, Eun-Ae still covered for her and kept her secret from their sect. The two of them were close friends in their youth, though lost contact after Yeong-Suk's departure from the sect.
