Stockmen are rural workers who tend to cattle on large rural properties. They are also known as jackaroos, jillaroos, ringers, or drovers, depending on their role and location. Stockmen perform various tasks such as mustering, branding, fencing, shearing, and riding. For such work, they often employ motor vehicles and dogs to assist them, but their most iconic companions are undoubtedly the Horse and the Klongen. Similar roles have been fulfilled for ages, but contemporary stockman culture began with British colonisation, as the ranching traditions of Europe mixed with local culture. Being culturally, economically and historically parallel to the American cowboy, these men and women have had a profound impact in Oceanyka's development and its national identity. They are icons of courage, independence, and the nationally distinguishing concept of mateship.
