The local crops have slowed in growth and the local farmers have grown worried as crops begin to yellow and wilt. The creatures of the nearby Winmist Glades have also grown more aggressive and agitated over the past few days. Writ Freeland, the defacto leader of the nearby Sunrise Commune appeared this morning at Quillpond Hall – Municipal Building and has put out a call for volunteers to help investigate what is happening that may, ultimately, bring an end to the tradition of the Harvest Festival.
Session Notes
Meeting with Nencio Barthol, we accept the job and are promised a payment of 25sp. Nencio has general information of 'crop problems' and directs us to Sunrise Commune for more information. We travel there (banter banter), and meet with Writ Freeland. Problem seems worse next to the Winmist Glades and he suspects something might be up with the Order of the Teeming Verdant Wood, a druidic order that lives in the Glades and who Writ has a good working relationship.
We arrive at the forest edge and Writ blows a horn made of, well, horn. Allora 'Lora' Selmer doubts his horn-blowing ability and gives it a second go. Warden Sorata Kien is not impressed. We follow her and she explains there has been a disruption in an annual ritual undertaken by the Seedwards, a lower ranking in the order. Seedward Idreal left some time ago to travel to the Court of the High Warden, but the ritual is obliviously incomplete and Idreal has not been seen/heard from since. The flora and fauna of the Glades has also become more hostile than usual, another sign something is wrong. She asks us to escort Seedward Erolynn to the Court. Like his predecessor, he cannot take any hostile actions on his journey. However, unlike Idreal, Erolynn will have our protection for the journey.
Journeying through the forest, we are met with drop-centipedes and walking bushes, all of which is normal according to Erolynn, just more... angry. Little trouble until we come on 3 murderers/ruffians/cultists/druid killers in a hollowed-out oak tree. One uses a vicious necrotic spell against Grummen Boneflowers, speaking in a dark language none of us know. The other two used scimitars. They are intent on killing the Seedward, but we keep him safe while slaying the three attackers. Searching them reveals three identical Silver Crescent Amulets with a red crystal in its center. None of us recognize it and neither does Erolynn. Sadly, we discover Seedward Idreal's corpse in the tree. We wrap it in a tarp and bring it with us for proper funeral rites.
We arrive at the Court, a think layer of fog on the ground and fireflies filling the sky. A hill covered in fragrant flowers fills the center of the clearing. Making our way to the top, we discover the High Warden - a unicorn materializing before us. The ritual is finalized and the High Warden performs rites over Idreal's body, sending a prayer up to Melora. It speaks first in Celestial, then mentally to each of us. We are welcomed to rest in the Court and sleep comfortably. On waking, we find the entire area full of life, honey bees the size of kittens buzz about and the grounds are verdant. Also, on the back of each of our right hands is an iridescent butterfly marking that shimmers in the sunlight.
With Erolynn's duties complete, we escort him back to the Order. The journey is uneventful, as the forest is again back to its peaceful ways. We leave the Glades and find the farmland again green and teeming with life, signs of a mission complete.
