Despite aching feet, Mari had never been more thrilled to be able to work. While Mari was happy to be around all sorts of people, and while her best friend Grummen was someone of few words, it was definitely different to be on a crew of rough and no nonsense sailors for weeks on end. Now in Kas Selvess, there was an entire community to serve, and Mari was eager to do so. If she was working, if she was energetic, no one paid her any mind further.
With her admittedly, limited skill set, it was mostly grunt work, mostly during the hottest parts of the days and mostly for people who understandably didn’t fully trust her. Mari didn’t mind too much though, it was nice to be useful.
“We are here to serve others and if I have done nothing else with my life, I want to make sure you both understand the same as well”
She had been thinking a lot of her mother recently, mostly because her mother had been an adventurer briefly, before settling down. Her mother did not boast of what she had done, although her father had told them stories of her on the days she worked late. The places she had seen, and the lives she had saved. Even after she settled, her mother had never stopped attempting to improve the lives of others.
So Mari knew the best way to honor her would be to make sure this village knew she would be as useful as she could be while she stayed with them for a short while. Mostly it was helping with repairing buildings and providing accessibilities for the citizens who needed more so. Mari also knew it was important to help as it was asked for by the community, not what she thought needed to occur.
Which led her to where she was now, carefully fixing a hole on a roof while Orion sun-bathed next to her. The pseudo-dragon had been continually happy on this trip, seemingly glad to be in warmth and up high. The winter in Evershoal had been hard on him. It had not been an easy winter for her either. Mari looked at her hands, scratched up and slightly callused from the labor.
Soon enough the task was done, which left her relieved, Mari wiped a bit of sweat off her brow and dispelled the armor of Agathys , a slightly cleverer way to keep herself cooler while she worked. The guardian sat on the edge of the roof then and took a sip of water, watching the surrounding village. Kas Selvess had been through so much, their citizens leaving home.
She watched Usil return with unusual ingredients from the forest floor with Grummen behind carrying many fish, Ryea was assisting the children in learning how to properly hold their spears, Gannet laughing with a few of the villagers over some joke, and even Farrival was assisting with the repairs. This was nice…but even Mari recognized a calm before the storm.
