Lacoraethiel Sel'simus Sylnaerith was a wealthy Eladrin magnate and eccentric in Morravin. He is best known for his career as a painter, although he has also been recognized for his achievements as a military officer, a duelist, and an academic. He is the eldest living member of House Sylnaerith.
Lacoraethiel served as a major antagonist during The Shadows of an Empire, although at the time Aurumvorax was not aware that he was being impersonated by members of House Sindelain.
Appearance
Lacoraethiel maintains an athletic frame, though the finer details of his appearance betray a generally sedentary lifestyle, from his floor-length hair and carved nails to his style of dress. He was easily noticed in a crowd thanks to his bright auburn hair, but after his time in the Shadowfell it would fade to a stark white. This would also ravage his body, leaving him thin and frail.
He prefers to clothe himself in fine garments, often embroidered and decorated with metals and precious stones. Although he was never Premier, he was often seen in traditional Sylnaerith robes until after the events of the Red Winter, although he still accents his clothing with touches of Sylnaerith violet.
He commonly wore a set of hairpins in the shape of a couatl, designed to highlight the length of his hair.
Disability
Lacoraethiel walks with a pronounced limp due to a complex hip injury and resulting loss of his right leg in his youth. He makes use of a custom-designed prosthetic which he commissioned from Yesanith Nellanor, and despite the fact that technology has improved since its creation, he continues to use the mobility aid, perhaps out of some sentimental value.
Personality
Lacoraethiel acts demure and dignified, but maintains an air of control over every social situation he partakes in. He is quite skilled at identifying others' desires and using them against them, and seems to prefer such manipulation over the development of true relationships. His cruelty lurks in the shadows of every encounter, and he seems satisfied with the infamy he has acquired.
He has a taste for finery that is seemingly unmatched. He seeks out any luxury or novelty once he's heard of it, leading him to spend an excess on art, technology, and his vices. He doesn't seem to limit himself on his purchases, though he recognizes their value and uses gifts to manipulate those in his life.
Lacoraethiel doesn't seem to have any particular inclination against illegal or immoral activity, and seems to act as he desires with impunity.
Background
Early Life
According to Elemissia Alvaenis, Lacoraethiel was born into the line of succession for Sylnaerith Premiership. His father's identity is unknown, but she believes his mother was visited by a fey trickster who later revealed his intent to curse her bloodline for their wanton cruelty. As a child, he was uncontrollable and generally unmotivated by the wishes of others, leading his mother to send him to a monastery in hopes of changing his behavior.
He would later leave the monastery and return to his family home, where he murdered his surviving family members in an effort to take control of Desimidras. However, his mother had enchanted the blade to reject any holder who spilled Sylnaerith blood.
Military Career
Lacoraethiel later made a voluntary decision to take part in the war in Laertagne, where he would learn about military strategy and build a friendship with General Yesanith Nellanor. He would retire after his injury and likely aided Nellanor in his development of the Warforged.
Abilities
Lacoraethiel is a talented swordsman, due in part to the variety of fighting styles he has learned. He is surprisingly mobile and quick to react in battle, leading to some question of whether or not his limp is otherwise exaggerated. He is also quite skilled at strategy, allowing him to turn nearly any battle in his favor.
Outside of battle, he is a well-known artist and poet, producing beautiful paintings and calligraphic compositions, and appears to have some technological knowledge.
Lacoraethiel has no innate magical ability, despite his fey ancestry.
