Tala

I got bucked off my horse, died, and got right back on, because apparently that's how fucking nuts I am.

Tala is a student of Wildlife Biology at SUNY Scajaquada here on the island for the Study Abroad program. She takes pride in her racial identity as she is at least half Seneca, and though she has never lived on a reservation, feels that society as a whole needs to be more kind to mother nature. Not an hour after she got her acceptance letter into the Study Abroad program, her butthead of a horse, Wyrm, got scared of a wayward plastic bag and bucked her off. She hit a splintered fence post on her way down, and when she came to, her head had fallen clean off and she could hear her horse's voice in her head. But other than that, she was absolutely fine! Just peachy! Oh yeah, and now she has a new job too, the whole... ferrying the souls of the dead, thing.

Abilities

Animal Empathy (all)

You can spend a few minutes studying and interacting with any animal to get a sense of how they're feeling. Once you do, take +2 to animal skills with that animal.

Shapeshifting: Red Wing Blackbird

You have another form that you can take at will. It takes a few seconds to complete the transformation, and it's interrupted if you're struck. Work with the GM to come up with an appropriate Template. It must be worth 10xp or less, but can be improved using the "Improved Shapeshifting" feature. The xp value of the alternate form is not "spent" when you assume it, the xp limit is merely a limit to its power. Flavor Requirement: You must provide a description of your other form and any limitations it has. If you would like more fluid control over your form, consider Magical Aptitiude.

Learning and Growing

When you critically fail a roll, give someone present Leverage and gain 1xp in addition to any you gain because of the margin of failure. When you critically succeed on a roll, take Leverage on someone present and gain 1xp. You also get +1 to Studies and Reasoning.

Exemplary

When you are in a scene with someone with higher Charisma than you, give them Leverage. If you finish a scene in which no person had higher Charisma than you, take leverage on someone who noticed how your Charisma sets you apart, makes you unique, or makes you exemplary. Once per scene, when you roll against anything in the Charisma tree, gain 1xp. You can only take at most one Exemplar template.

Answer the Call

When someone spends a point of Leverage to call out to you, you can choose to roll versus Bravery to instantly go to them. After rolling, but before results are determined, you can spend any number of Leverage that you have on them to improve your roll (+1 per Leverage). On a critical fail, you have a mishap determined by the GM. On a fail, you don't manage to go anywhere. On a success, you appear at their side. On a critical success, you arrive and then take up to two seconds to assess the situation, and then you can immediately take them back to where you were. Flavor Requirement: How are you traveling?

Dark Vision

You can see perfectly well in complete darkness, just not in color.

Spirit Vision

You can see ghosts and spirits that are normally invisible to the human eye

Divine Beasts - Warging

After concentrating on an animal for fifteen seconds and a successful roll, Tala can possess the mind of an animal and control it. Tala herself (both head and body if separate) are left standing there with a vacant look on her face. Tala has no feeling in her own body and can't tell what's happening to it while she is warging.

Divine Movement - Unite

With a successful roll, Tala's head, Tala's body, and Wyrm are all brought to wherever Tala's consciousness is. They arrive in a bright flash of light.

Divine Aid - Soothe

With three seconds of eye contact and a successful roll, the target gets a bonus to Bravery and Self Control equal to her margin of success (minimum 1). It works on people and animals, and is subtle enough that most people won't realize she's done magic. A target who is suspicious can roll Detect Magic to see if they realize she is doing magic to them, and then Resist Influence if they don't want the effect. These rolls have a +1 bonus if she has done it to them before.

Pacifism

You may fight – you may even start fights – but you may only use deadly force on a foe that is attempting to do you serious harm.

Chronic Pain

You have an old injury or condition that effects you in your day to day life. It doesn't impact your numbers, but RP it. Flavor Requirement: What hurts and why?

Lecherous

When you encounter an attractive person, make a Self Control roll. If you fail, you must attempt to flirt with them by the end of the scene.

Overconfidence

You believe that you are far more powerful, intelligent, or competent than you really are. You may be proud and boastful or just quietly determined, but you must roleplay this trait. You must make a self-control roll any time you or the GM feels you show an unreasonable degree of caution. If you fail, you must go ahead as though you were able to handle the situation! Caution is not an option.

Klutz

Failures with Dexterity or Agility-based rolls are treated as Critical Failures for you, but not for the purpose of xp. This must involve your character dropping or losing their head in some way. This is the true Curse of the Dullahan.

Supernatural Appearance (minor)

The seam along your neck marks you as a Dullahan. You can pass for a normal mortal to casual observers, but closer inspection reveals that you are not quite right. This might give away your secret to the trained eye.

Weakness (Gold)

You have an incapacitating supernatural reaction to gold. If you are exposed to it, you must immediately make a Pain Tolerance roll every minute. On a failure, your attributes all have a -5 penalty. Contact with gold causes sores and welts on a Dullahan's skin.

Cause

You have a Cause that you are dedicated to, often putting it before yourself or others. You might even call yourself a vigilante. When you turn to violence or sabatoge in order to further your Cause, take Leverage on someone you think is against it. When your over-enthusiasm causes someone to raise an eyebrow or to rethink their time with you, they gain Leverage on you.

Ineptitude (narrow): Tala is actually a really bad student, doesn't focus very well on her studies and doesn't seem to have a great mind for it.
Talent: Animal Care, Endurance, Balance, and Acting Quickly are all things you get good at when you work with horses a lot.
Chronic Pain: Falling neck first onto a fence post is likely to leave you with a bit of neck pain, don't you think?

Tala is from Western New York and she is here as part of the Study Abroad program.

Jacob - Tala and Jacob are in the same major and had some classes together last year. Jacob is a really good friend.... but not more than that!
A D&D Group! - Tala has never played before but Jacob said it would be really fun, and Jacob is a really good friend, so it'll be fun! Tala is playing a ranger with a black wolf for a companion!
Dakota is also her other bestie! It was all Dakota's idea to come here. The three of them have been friends since highschool.
