Irvine

Cat? What Cat?

Mischievous. Capricious like a twinkling star, as all Sidhe are. Yet, not without a kinder side - should you find it. Irvine does not like to witness cruelty and will always strive to intervene even when it may be ill-advised, a trait that has gotten him into trouble on more than one occasion and undoubtedly will so again. On warm days he may be found relaxing in the boughs of sturdy trees, whether as a human or a cat. Allowing certain people a chance at glimpsing his second form is a fun game he likes to play, elstwise it is rare for all but the most perceptive to spot him when he truly wishes to hide.

The human forms of Cait Sidhe are smaller than most, and Irvine is no exception. Standing just beyond 1.5 meters tall, he is slim and lithe as most of his kind. Straight and fiery red hair adorns his head, with bright blue eyes the colour of the sea in the rays of a midsummer sun beneath. The face they are set on is markedly androgynous and borders on 'beautiful', it would not be difficult at all to mistake him for a tomboy with the clothes he often wears. A single small scar crosses the bridge of his nose, and his cheeks are dappled by faint freckles.

As a cat, he is as large as a sizeable dog and entirely black save for a white patch on his chest shaped like a water droplet.

It is an old adage that cats and water simply do not mix, and for all their mysticism Cait Sidhe are no exception. Irvine possesses an aversion to any body of liquid larger and deeper than a bath, and while he deeply wishes to one day overcome it, it yet continues to vex him.

Backstory & Origin

A native of Luachmhar island, Irvine was raised in the central town of Glaisinkyl between the realms of Human and Sidhe. There truly is not more to the story than that, not yet. His early years were mundane - as far as one could expect mundanity from an immortal shapeshifting Fae - aside from the incident which resulted in the small distinctive scar he possesses along the bridge of his nose. Still, that is an old story, and in the current year his desire to attend university stems from a mixture of whimsical curiosity and genuine consideration for the future. He is young, and must learn much.

He has yet to develop any form of consciously invoked magic. Whether there is more to this or if he is simply a late bloomer remains to be seen, but in return his physical skills as a Cait Sidhe are well honed.

Backstory Connections
List the characters you are connected to, the story between you, and who gets what Leverage. Everyone must do at least three connections.

  • Nina - A new friend met on orientation day, they exchanged numbers as some form of odd icebreaker. Notable for being shorter than Irvine, a rare occurrence.
  • Vincent & Ratt - Vincent's familiar Ratt spotted Irvine's cat form from a distance while he was under the effects of Feth Fiada. His master followed the familiar's directions, eventually coming upon a now-human Irv. They shared a brief but humorous exchange.
  • Bradan - Professor of one of Irvine's classes and Sage of the Slingers, he assisted Irvine in gaining entry to the university. They have some idea of each other's supernatural inclinations.
  • Tala - Irvine spotted her riding her horse through the woods one day when its misbehaviour resulted in her head falling off. Before he could try to help, she simply replaced it as if nothing happened. He found it somewhat creepy and wishes to discover what kind of creature she is, or if it was an illusion.

Sidhe Codes

Irvine currently lives by The Code of the Honest Ones, but from the influence of his mother he has also been ingrained with some of the values of The Seelie Code.

The Code of the Honest Ones

  • Observing a Fae (but not others) without their knowledge is considered an act of violence. You might as well have punched them. If a Fae attacks as a result, it's considered self defense.
  • If you borrow something, return it in better condition. Stealing from Fae is a horrible offense.
  • If you say you are going to do something, it's extremely offensive if you don't.
  • The words that leave my mouth are my responsibility; how you interpret them is not.
  • Elder trees are sacred and must be protected. Respect and revere the Eldernymphs.

The Seelie Code

  • Death before dishonor.  Chivalry still lives.  Honor is the most important virtue, the source of all glory.  Personal honor must always be kept stainless.  Sometimes death is the only path which can erase a mark of dishonor.
  • Love conquers all.  Love lies at the heart of the Dreaming.  True love transcends all and epitomizes what it means to be a Seelie.  Courtly love best expresses love in its highest form, although familial love and love of companions also serve as pure embodiments of that exalted virtue.  Anything is permitted in the name of true love.
  • Beauty is life.  Beauty is a timeless, objective quality that, while it cannot be defined, is always recognized for itself.  Beauty is the muse of creation, the ultimate flowering of the Dreaming.  Once found, it must be protected, for it is both eternal and fragile.  To die in the service of beauty is an honor and a privilege.
  • Never forget a debt. One gift deserves another.  The recipient of a gift is obligated to return the favor.  Likewise, a curse should be returned in kind.  An oath of friendship should be answered with a corresponding oath.  Never refuse to aid anyone to whom you are indebted.  Never forget a kindness... or a curse.
