Jarlaxle is a drow mercenary and leader of the Bregan D'aerthe mercenary company. He is also the owner of The Sea Maiden's Faire, under the magical guise of Zardoz Zord, a human ship captain from Luskan. Jarlaxle is actually from Menzoberranzan, the City of Spiders, in The Underdark. When he founded Bregan D'aerthe, it had only a few hundred members and was only present in Menzoberranzan. Since then, it has expanded to include nearly 6,000 members throughout the Underdark, as well as on the surface in cities such as Calimport, Luskan, and even Waterdeep. Jarlaxle is fabulously wealthy and is the most powerful male drow within the matriarchal Lolth-worshipping society. His company provides purpose and security to drow outcasts, renegades, and rogues, and especially to male drow.

Appearance
Jarlaxle is slender and handsome. He wears extraordinarily bright colors, including a cape that shines in every color in both the visible and infrared spectra. He wears high boots, bracelets, earrings, and rings, many of which are enchanted. He wears an eyepatch that protects his mind from magical intrusions, such as mind-reading or telepathic communication, and which also allows him to see through walls. He frequently shifts the eyepatch from eye to eye for his own amusement, as both of his eyes are perfectly functional. He also wears an ostentatious wide-brimmed hat, plumed with a colorful diatryma feather. His hat is also enchanted to allow him to change his appearance at will, in the form of illusions. He is completely bald, which is uncommon for most drow, who reflect their rank in Menzoberranzan by their hairstyle.
Personality
Jarlaxle is an opportunist with a very charismatic and manipulative personality, always willing to talk his way out of situations rather than resort to violence. His charisma works past the handicap of his people's evil reputation, able to turn potential enemies into allies. He loves irony, sarcasm, and wit, and is a very good liar. On the surface, he can seem foolish, but in truth, he has a frighteningly intelligent mind. He will also flirt with anyone he finds attractive, including both men and women. He is dating Margo Verida and Khafeyta Murzan, and also had an affair with Lady Yallah Gralhund, and flirted with Sir Dragomir and Lord Renaer Neverember.
Jarlaxle's alignment is Chaotic Neutral. He is more than willing to commit crimes, especially involving thievery, identity theft, blackmailing, bribery, and even murder, but occasionally enjoys the hero.
Though he is a skilled and well-armed fighter, he typically avoids killing people, especially if they can be manipulated to aid him in any way.
