Helen Crane has worked her way from acting as a clerk in a small town to operating the largest accountancy and money lending business in Bumbleton. As a result she has accrued enough wealth and favour that she is able to hobnob with impunity amongst the nobility even though she is a commoner.
Francis, her first husband, was a lieutenant in the military. He was killed in the line of duty while protecting an outlying village from a bandit raid.
Continuing to seek to better her lot in life, Helen accepted a marriage proposal from Johannes Kal and now helps to run his estate.
