Adopted son of the Debrujar family, Cyril was not born to take the throne of Telaar. Rather, he rose to power following the death of the former King, and the crisis of succession that occurred when the intended heir, Princess Kalista Debrujar, refused to take her place on the throne. The Godswar had taken its toll upon the royal family and the Princess was last of line, leaving none immediately apparent to take the throne. As the eldest son of the Serannas family, Cyril too could trace his lineage to the Great Emerald Dragon and used this as legitimacy in order to stake his claim to the throne. Seeking the stability of power, the nobles of Telaar rallied behind him and soon after he ascended, taking on the Debrujar name as he did so.
Despite his somewhat contentious rise to power, Cyril has proven himself to be a more than capable leader, successfully guiding Telaar through the tumultuousness of recent decades, allowing the Realm to maintain its position of comfort and prosperity despite the calamities that have plagued the Realms in recent years. There are many who would accuse him of profiting off of them, in fact, though their are few within the Realm who would complain at having been somehow spared the dangers that have threatened their proverbial neighbors.
In pursuit of this, King Cyril has made it a policy to maintain good relations with the other Realms when at all possible, even with those who other leaders might find distasteful, such as the Verdannen royal family and the former dictator of The Hub, Gallus. One notable exception to this would be The Hub's current leadership, as it has long been known that King Cyril and Lady Kalista hold a great dislike for one another, though both endeavour not to let personal grudges get in the way of what may be good for their homes.
