Christine Scarlatti

In the days prior to the reformation of Cyprus, the name Christine Scarlatti was one to be respected and feared to the people of Cyprus' underworld. The heiress to the city's most powerful crime family, Christine rose to power after the mysterious death of her father and former head of the family, many believe by her own hand, though none would dare voice their doubts to her face. Under her leadership and aided by her steadfast right hand, Elliot Lancaster, the Scarlattis truly became a force to be reckoned with in Cyprus, with their influence reaching into nearly every corner or the city illicit or not. Many outside of the family initially feared her rise to power as her influence spread across the city but most soon came to realize that her interests lay not strictly in the acquisition of power for its own sake, but in the stability and comfort that it afforded to herself and her "brothers and sisters". Though there were obviously many who would continue to oppose her and her actions, there would come to be no small amount of people who came to view her as a necessary evil as her influence kept the worst impulses of most of the criminal elements of the city more or less in check. She and her family would remain in an uneasy truce with the other powers of the city through the days of the cataclysm that would strike Cyprus. Its known that she was deeply involved in the events that lead up to the invasion and the reformation that followed, though her purpose for being so and the extent of her actions remain unknown still.

In the weeks following the invasion, many were shocked to see that both Christine and much of the Scarlatti family were heavily involved in the reconstruction efforts contributing both funds and labor in ample amounts. Many feared the influence that this would give to the underworld queen over the new King and government, only to be shocked once more when Christine abruptly vanished from public life. Though many who remained in what was left of Cyprus' underworld would come to seek her out, she would tunr all of them away, forcefully in necessary, insisting to all who doubted her that her purpose was over and she was interested in nothing more than rest after her long vigil. Her cryptic words would come to be understood as gradually across Cyprus, the Vampires began to emerge from their secrecy and brought with them the harrowing tales of their struggles with the bloodlust that once consumed them.

Though Christine has to all appearances comfortably settled into her retirement, she remains an active figure in the lives of her "family", still devoted to the safety and happiness of her people even now that they are free to live as they will. She is frequently seen visiting The Red Curtain to be amongst those members of her family that chose to remain in Cyprus, and most vampires view her as an almost motherly figure, often returning to visit in kind as they grow into their new lives.
