The Gravetides are a morally flexible mercenary outfit with
reach, resources, and a mobile base of operations. They’re cheaper than
The Grey Guard
and boast a broader range thanks to
The Duskrender, their moored black-sailed brigantine that serves as both headquarters and
haven. While they operate within the bounds of legality, it’s an open secret
that
Vesper Kurn
(ever the silver-tongued captain) keeps things just clean enough to avoid
scrutiny. Less disciplined and far looser with their morals, the Gravetides
are feared more than respected. They’re efficient, yes, but more than one
client has learned the hard way what happens when payment is late or terms
change mid-contract.
“Yeah, the Gravetides? Oh, they’re fine ‘til they’re not. Captain Vesper’s all smiles ‘til the job’s halfway done and suddenly it’s ‘double the price or we walk.’ Got a damn ship they live on, too - Duskrender, out past the markers. Real pirate name, that.”
While not overtly affiliated with any known cult or criminal element, some
members have started to draw attention. Among them,
Naveer Roen, once known as a quiet and dependable caravan guard, has
become distant, colder and more detached.
“Naveer used to be decent. Quiet type. Fought off bandits on the North Road once. Now? He just stares through you. Like he’s trying to figure out how to dodge the taxman.”
