Zehal Tirabarr (Mentor)

Jedi Knight
“This one believez there iz much similarity between a Jedi and a hunter when it comez to defeating the Dark.”
Backstory

A Barabel from his people’s homeworld of Barab 1, Zehal was raised from a hatchling to be one thing: a hunter. Like many of his kind, he was taught the ways of predator and prey from a young age, his skills honed to defeat dangerous game to prove his abilities. While he didn’t know it at the time, Zehal’s ability to track his prey was enhanced by his natural gifts with the Force. It was a talent that would only come to fruition when he finally left his world to seek his fortune in the broader galaxy.

Whereas some Barabels became mercenaries, Zehal took far more pleasure in the idea of hunting dangerous targets. Whether a vicious beast or a dangerous person, Zehal took on those jobs he thought would bring the biggest challenge but he was also discerning in his choices. Zehal only chose hunts he believed were honorable, judging both the client and the target to determine if there was a true need for its completion.

Eventually Zehal’s travels led him to cross paths with none other than Luke Skywalker as he was on the trail of lost Jedi artifacts. Having recently completed a hunt, Zehal came to learn that he had been lied to by his client and was determined to meet out retribution against the man. Sensing the coming violence, Luke stepped in to mediate the dispute, and given the Barabel people’s great cultural respect for the Jedi, Zehal was only too willing to listen to Luke’s wise words of wisdom.

Sensing the potential in the Barabel, Luke decided to offer him the opportunity to help him learn more about his abilities and to even become a Jedi himself. While initially wary of the offer, Zehal would not question a Jedi Master. If it would be possible that his talents could serve the great Jedi, it was his sworn duty to do so. Travelling to Dantooine, Zehal applied himself to his training and was later made a Jedi Knight.

Appearence

37, Male, Barabel, bright yellow reptilian eyes, dark green scales that almost appear black from certain angles. Typically dressed in the robes of a Jedi of a dark color with a cloak that has a camouflage pattern to it.

Personality
As a Barabel, Zehal’s personality can be hard to parse for most other beings. He can be described as ‘intense’, at times, seeming to not have any sense of humor and to take most things very literally. At the same time, it can be difficult to tell when he is joking, his gallows humor at times being off putting while seeming absolutely hilarious to him. Apologies, for instance, whether for a misdeed or in sympathy, are considered mildly insulting to Barabels, and apologizing for such a misunderstanding often to make a situation worse.

While clearly not shying away from violence, especially towards those who he considers deserving of such things, Zehal is still a dedicated believer in the purpose of the Jedi Order. A fierce and uncompromising combatant, he is well aware of his darker and more violent instincts, something that has become a part of his use of the Juyo lightsaber form. Rather than ignore his more violent tendencies, Zehal does much to maintain inner peace and communion with the Light Side of the Force, often spending weeks at a time in meditation following battles to center his thoughts. Even if his methods are sometimes at odds with his more conventional peers, there is no question of Zehal’s loyalty to the Order and his willingness to help it succeed in its mission.

He has a dogged determination to track down his “prey” and will use all of his abilities to help him succeed in that goal. In combat, especially against powerful foes, he does not hold back. He will focus his attention on the biggest danger in battle, attacking with great ferocity to neutralize them as quickly as possible for the sake of his allies.

In general he goes on missions where the Jedi are aiming to track down specific targets, whether it is to apprehend them or defeat them. Most of the time he operates out of the Dantooine temple or Hosnian Prime, though he tends to dislike large urban environments.
