Secrets of Saqqara

Plot

Once upon a time, the country of Saqqara prospered in the area of the Watchers' Island that is known today as the Desert of Rydess. Now it is buried beneath the sands, but sands shift, and secrets are uncovered... So far, the Tomb of the Oracles,  the Temple of the Oracles, and the Saqqaran Observatory have been discovered.

The ancient language used in this bygone country was Saqqaran. When written, it uses pictograms and hieroglyphics. It has ties to the Unknown magic and the creation of magical ka stones. The meaning of five pictograms is known to the wider public; the first five digits are sun (one), scales (two), hourglass (three), butterfly (four), and flower (five). However, some Guild members have learned this ancient tongue too, and know far more. Currently, apart from them, the only known living speaker of it is Khafre, who taught them, and who offers to teach others as well.

GM Notes

Desert of Rydess

- Saqqara is based on Ancient Egypt. However, their lands were lush, verdant, and fertile, like the area around the Nile, and with no deserts beyond that. The Desert of Rydess happened later, as Rydess and her predecessors blasted this region with lightning.

- Saqqara coexisted with Eastern Landmass Civilisation and the Achaean civilisation.

- Saqqarans were predominantly Unknown, but Sphinxes also lived with them, as wise councilors.
