First offically encountered during Divine Intervention. A 'dead god' that had previously "cultivated and slaughtered civilizations." Their tomb was guarded by two Crystal Dragons at the command of the dragon deities (Tiamat and Bahamut). Party unwisely knocked out the guards and broke one of the seals on the tomb, causing the moon to crack and shift, and light to spill out.
After the moon cracked the party in Of the Hills, Our Bones (Part 2) learned that the voiceless gods (most likely Monday, but maybe some others too) were sealed on the Moon by the Great Wyrm. Livinyas shared more details in town, and complained how the Great Wyrm tasked the different dragon clans to guard the seals.
In Dragon Discussion, the party asked Rydess if there was a way to restore the seal on the Moon but Rydess had no such knowledge, but said a more aged dragon might.
Elgie and Beety mention some strange behavior in the Tanglelight Forest during the events of In the Halls of the Mountain Queen, specifically:
- The Moon is rising in the East, not West and silver blooms where it shouldn't
- Some folks can suddenly turn into beast as if they were werebeasts, but might not be
Potentially related, during Taste the Rainbow, the party discovered Lamaia is a were-bere, though she didn't realize it herself.
The waxing moon approaches its zenith in the night sky, unusually large. There is a sense of discord among the denizens of First Landing. Livestock in nearby farms have been discovered ripped asunder by strange beastly claws. Something is afoot...but what? The moon begins to look different at night. Suddenly, all at once, astronomers observe a crack in the celestial body, running all along its surface. It appears almost split in half, like someone took the moon and cracked it on the edge of a surface like it was an egg. Hard to see from the ground, a faint silver and not-quite-pink-not-quite-purple light glows from somewhere deep inside the crack. - Metaridley (in #global, potentially during the events Divine Intervention, but potentially before)
Furthermore, the lunar cycles seem to change, moving... faster, perhaps. Full moons especially happen more often, and new moons less so. Seeing more of the cracked sky orb is a more common occurrence now. - Romana (in #Global immediately after the events of Divine Intervention) |
Even before Divine Intervention, strange things were tied to the Moon.
- During Lunar Diplomacy, Getsumei suddenly turned into a monster and was fueled by moonlight as they lost their head (literally) and went on a rampage
- In Along the Desert's Coast, the party encountered a strange pond in the swamps around Avis River and discovered it was a holy site used by moon-worshipping Werewolves
- During Lambent Piracy, Guhdhag took part in a ritual honoring the Werewolves' moon goddess (Monday?) by drinking swamp water (presumably from the sacred pond) and become a Werewolf.
One of the earliest craziness with the Moon was tied to the First Landing Spooky Costume Anniversary Party.
The following morning, all seems normal. It is a clear day, and the strange individual from yesterday seems almost forgotten. Until, two hours after the guildhouse opens, it gets a little colder, as if a cloud has moved in front of the sun. For those who look up, they'll instead find a dark circle encroach on the sun, almost like someone took a big bite out of it.
As it becomes apparent that there is indeed an eclipse going on, the townsfolk become a nerveus buzz. Some leave their workplaces to watch.
Over the course of about thirty minutes, the sun grows more and more obscured. As the eclipse progresses, the moon seems to be moving slower and slower, inching away the light.
Then, at the moment of total eclipse, there is a suddenly silence. Not only does the buzz around town grow quiet, so does the rest of the surroundings. You wait. A minute goes by. Four. Five. The moon is not moving. Ten minutes. An unnatural worry begins to take hold. Why isn't it moving anymore? Why did it stop?
Then, in the dusky light of the eclipse, dark clouds start to gather. Not large angry storm clouds, but wispy, shadowy things. They hang low in the air, and from the town walls one could see them touch down on the ground as mist. There is movement in the shadows.
A bell rings through town. The guild is declaring an emergency. - Alex (in #Global, announcing the start of the Eclipse Event) |
